What images waltz through your head when you hear whispers of Net Zero? Solar panels glistening in the eternal sunshine? Forests of wind turbines swaying in the gentle breeze? Or perhaps a stark world where oil is the Voldemort of the energy saga – “The Fossil Fuel That Must Not Be Named”? We are the only generation that can do something about climate change, and to reach our goals of Net zero we must truly understand what it means, It may be unfashionable to speak of material things but analysing the complex supply chains might be the "Aha" moment. The most significant takeaway from COP 28 was phasing out Fossil fuels, straightforward as it sounds, It is the complete opposite when one discovers that we rely on petrochemicals on such a level that there isn't a viable alternative that can be produced quickly enough to match the demand that Netrality requires. In Conway's curious chronicle, copper and lithium don their capes like superheroes, paving the way to a renewable realm. They are not mere elements on the periodic table but the very lifeblood of electric avenues and energy storage solutions. Without these material musketeers, our electric cars would be nothing more than fancy drivable bricks. For all the Net Zero Zealots, we need to retort to these rare minerals and silicone to reach our goal. let us not forget the fantastic fable of efficiency “More for less”. "Material Things" is our passport to the land of conscientious consumption.
