❓ Seeking ideas on how to nurture genuine appreciation within your teams? 🔖 Read my latest for Forbes Nonprofit Council for some ideas on where to start. "In the world of nonprofits, where passion for the cause often supersedes financial incentives, fostering a culture of appreciation is paramount. Yet, all too often, the invaluable contributions of nonprofit staff members go unrecognized and uncelebrated. In this era of heightened competition for talent, remote work environments and increased burnout rates, nonprofit leaders must prioritize staff appreciation and recognition as a strategic imperative. Within this, it is also essential to strike a balance between cultivating genuine appreciation and inadvertently fostering a culture of mere niceness—where gratitude becomes routine and detached from meaningful achievement." 👀 Read more below: https://lnkd.in/eminFUmT

As a small business owner, providing competitive salaries is not always sufficient to motivate your staff. It is crucial to implement effective appraisal methods, as rightly pointed out by Page Hinerman. Some other appraisal methods include: 1. Performance-based bonuses: Offering bonuses or incentives for outstanding performance can be a significant motivator for employees. 2. Regular performance evaluations: Regular evaluations help employees understand their strengths and weaknesses, allowing for targeted development and recognition of achievements. 3. Promotion opportunities: Providing clear paths for advancement within the organization can motivate employees to perform at their best. 4. Recognition programs: Acknowledging employee achievements through awards, certificates, or public praise can boost morale and encourage continued dedication. These appraisal methods are not only beneficial for nonprofit organizations but are also applicable to for-profit organizations. They contribute to team morale and ensure employee dedication to the success of the organization.

Social impact organizations perform life-saving work every day. How often does your organization take the time to acknowledge that or the partners who contribute to the mission to achieve social impact?? Celebrating success and everyday milestones in your work boosts morale and motivation among staff and volunteers and helps build a positive organizational culture. 🎉 Here are three ways nonprofits can spread the love… 🥰 Partner Appreciation Recognizing and appreciating the time and effort of those who partner, volunteer or support your organization can strengthen their connection to your mission and vision. This could include an appreciation breakfast, intentional gatherings, or special shout-outs in newsletters and social media. 💪 Supporting Staff Development Take time to let your staff develop themselves. This could look different for everyone. It may be opportunities for networking lunches, providing leave or finances for them to attend a professional retreat, or designing a fun day out to celebrate collective achievements on your team. Regularly incorporating creative support is a great way to develop the individual while fostering a positive and supportive work environment. 🗞 Transparent & Consistent Communications Help maintain a sense of unity and purpose within the organization by regularly updating staff and volunteers through regular check-ins, internal newsletters, and other communications and team meetings with agendas intended for sharing and learning. Provide space for your team to connect with higher leadership where it makes sense, and keep communications open and flowing so people feel looped in and connected. What would you add to this list? #pagecapacitybuilders #nonprofits #nonprofitconsultant #socialimpact #organizationalculture #teambuilding

For the last two years, Next Stage has been calling attention to a challenge being faced by many service providers - a declining referral pipeline of people for services. Some organizations, particularly safety net organizations, have been less effected. But organizations focused on economic mobility have felt the pinch. This data point from our recent webinar on the use of community voice to inform your marketing efforts is not a surprise, but it is confirmation to know that what we’ve been hearing from some clients and partners is a challenge faced by others as well. What to do about this challenge? We believe the answers lie in stronger community voice efforts. Want to know more? Check out our upcoming webinars.

For those of us in the sector, are we surprised? The grind culture of nonprofits is grinding its people to the ground. Learning how to build efficiencies and time management techniques are all well and good, but at a certain point we need to realize that we don't need to heap more work, more deadlines, and more goals on people in an effort to be more productive because it's having a deleterious effect on staff, organizational culture, and employee retention.
