Every object or substance in the universe reflects light slightly differently, making it possible to learn information about it. The human eye and traditional cameras dismiss much of this information by condensing it down into three channels, red, green, and blue. While this lets us see colours, it is possible to see a lot more by looking a little closer. The intricate dance between light and the structure of an object provides spectral information, allowing us to uncover many properties beyond just colour. Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) ramps up the resolution to observe light in much more detail using 30+ channels rather than just three. With this level of detail, it is possible to detect spectral features and signatures that open up a range of use cases, and one of the most active fields is healthcare. #HSI techniques in healthcare have advanced tremendously over the years, and are divided into two main categories: diagnostics and surgery. Read our blog on the benefits of Hyperspectral Imaging for the Healthcare Industry. Next week we will be presenting our HSI Camera at SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, join us at our booth #5545. #hyperspectral ; #imaging ; #computervision #SPIEWest . https://lnkd.in/dVvipBH8

Ophthopedia Update:Funds exam necessary to detect horseshoe tears: Ultra-widefield imaging alone is not sufficient for detecting retinal horseshoe tears and should not replace funduscopic examination, according to a study published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology. Although use of ultra-widefield (UWF) imaging has grown considerably, the technology remains limited by cost, availability of skilled photographers, artifacts and lack of true color representation, as well as often poor visualization of inferior and superior sectors, researchers wrote. They added: “The preferred method for evaluating peripheral vitreoretinal diseases, including

Fundus imaging systems have been highly competitive in the ophthalmic diagnostic equipment market for years and now comprise the largest market segment, accounting for nearly 20 percent of all ophthalmic diagnostic equipment. Market Scope estimates the global market for fundus imaging systems at nearly $730 million in 2023 and expects the market to grow to nearly $900 million by 2028. Growth will be driven mainly by a combination of demand for newer devices with more features to replace those currently in use and expansion of eye care services in developing markets. The top three manufacturers – Topcon Healthcare, Optos, and ZEISS Medical Technology – account for around 60 percent of all fundus imaging market revenue. The largest of these, Topcon Healthcare, has been one of the segment leaders for years and sells or distributes its products globally. Topcon has done an excellent job of marketing its products to large corporate clients, such as Walmart and various optical retailers. They have received several key US FDA approvals in the diagnostics market recently and have invested extensively in the digital space with software to integrate and expand diagnostic abilities. Optos has been very successful with its line of retinal imaging products and has evolved its business model over time to capitalize on its technology surrounding wide-angle viewing. Their strong market position in the US optometry and corporate markets with retinal diagnostic devices and expertise in wide-field retinal scanning and recent innovation has helped them maintain a strong share of the fundus market. ZEISS Medical Technology continues to invest in ophthalmic diagnostics and its clinical management system that ties equipment together. Zeiss is expected to build on its strong market position by increasing its penetration in markets for ophthalmic diagnostic products and by expanding its footprint into streamlining data collection and integration. Other notable competitors in this market include Heidelberg Engineering, Canon Inc., Kowa Ophthalmic, NIDEK USA, iCare, Essilor Group, and Huvitz_official, all of which compete for around 40 percent of the market. Market Scope’s “2023 Fundus Imaging Market Report” thoroughly analyzes and profiles all of these competitors, examining their products, market share, strengths, and weaknesses. The report provides five-year market forecasts for fundus imaging devices and divides estimates into five categories: fundus screeners, diagnostic fundus imaging, advanced fundus imaging, combination systems, and hand-held systems. Estimates include unit sales, installed equipment base, average prices. 🌟 Advances in Medical Imaging: Synthetic CT (Bone MRI) 🌟 Synthetic CT (Bone MRI) is an innovative technique that holds great promise in the field of radiology. Synthetic CT, also known as Synthetic Bone MRI, is a cutting-edge imaging technology that utilizes advanced algorithms to generate a synthetic representation of a patient's bone structure using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. This groundbreaking technique eliminates the need for conventional CT scans, which involve exposure to ionizing radiation, thereby minimizing risks and enhancing patient safety. The emergence of Synthetic CT brings numerous advantages to both patients and healthcare providers. Firstly, it offers a non-invasive alternative to conventional CT scans, reducing the radiation dose received by patients and mitigating potential long-term health risks associated with ionizing radiation. This is especially significant for patients requiring multiple imaging studies over time, such as those with chronic conditions or undergoing radiation therapy. Furthermore, Synthetic CT has is highly accurate and reliable in reproducing bone structures, enabling precise anatomical mapping and treatment planning. This technology holds immense potential for various medical applications, including radiation therapy planning, orthopedic evaluations, and surgical interventions. By providing detailed bone information through MRI data, Synthetic CT enhances diagnostic capabilities, facilitating more informed clinical decision-making and personalized patient care. The integration of Synthetic CT into clinical practice also brings operational benefits for healthcare institutions. It streamlines imaging workflows, as radiologists can now derive comprehensive bone information directly from routine MRI scans, eliminating the need for additional CT imaging sessions. This not only optimizes resource utilization but also reduces patient discomfort and overall healthcare costs. As professionals in the field of healthcare, we have a collective responsibility to embrace and promote technological advancements that improve patient outcomes and experiences. Synthetic CT represents a remarkable leap forward in medical imaging, offering a safer, more accurate, and streamlined approach to bone assessment. #SyntheticCT #MedicalImaging #Radiology #PatientCare #Innovation #HealthcareAdvancements source of the image: https://lnkd.in/d84Z2pba
