This is one of my favorite stories of all time. Mickey Mantle talks about why Billy Martin is such a great manager. Basically, he's ride or die.
Mickey tells a story about Billy that exemplifies this perfectly. The story doesn't have anything to do with baseball but it makes his point. Stories and metaphors can be a great way to make sure people understand and retain what you have to say. #storytelling#storytellingforbusiness#baseball#humorhttps://lnkd.in/g2bxtfcQ

Like Nick I wasn't sure what was going here at first. But then it made complete sense.
This sort of practice - for something important - has been around a long time.
Visualising, and when you can practising, in this way, can be an invaluable part of your preparation. Especially for a #presentation or an important meeting.
For big presentations - big because of their importance or the size of audience - I would always try and:
- get on the stage beforehand, walk around, get comfortable, practice my intro, imaging people nodding, asking good questions, coming up at the end and saying positive things
- stand at the back of the room, see myself standing confidently, see myself talking at a good volume, a good pace, to all parts of the room
It helps me feel #confident, ready, and good to go.
What about you? What is your equivalent? A presentation? A client meeting? A regular meeting with a senior stakeholder?

I thought this was a mockumentary at first..
because you wouldn't think of a referee practicing like this, it's fascinating!
In football particularly, refs get so much criticism. I think fans would love a show on Netflix or Prime that'd document the lives of Premier League referees, showing the reality of what happens when they get it right and.. what happens when they get it wrong.
If anything, we'd be more empathetic and there'd be a lot more transparency to how decisions are made.

Watching masters of their craft at work is such a treat. I can't wait for LeBron and soon to be Tom Brady to become commentators
LeBron recently launched a podcast with his now coach JJ Redick and it's clear that he's such a student of the game. His ability to recall specific games (from a decade ago) and plays of his / other teams is absolutely insane. He keys in on players strengths / weaknesses in extreme detail and how he tries to maximize expected value on both sides of the court on every play as a floor general
What does that have to do with the world of Finance? What often shocks me in my conversations, is despite being in a relatively small community on Wall Street, most finance professionals don't know their peers across the street. They've NOT invested the time in understanding how their competitors are built, their organizational strengths / weaknesses and where they are in the firm lifecycle. We all wear the scars of our past and the way we perceive the opportunities / risk of a deal is shaped by those experiences. One man's garbage is as a result another's treasure. When discussing intel, its almost always heresay (vs. first hand knowledge), that severely limits the cards / intelligence one has.
If one aspires to be a Master of the Universe, a learn-it-all attitude is a must. Hopefully, we can all take a page from LeBron's playbook.
P.S., Do check out the podcast, it is such a treat to see someone geeking out about edges
