Earlier this week, I attended a great event - Startup Life: AI vs Employees - organised by Sifted, with a brilliant panel including Eleanor Lightbody from Luminance and Rishabh Mehrotra from Sourcegraph, expertly moderated by Anisah Osman Britton MBE. I don't need to tell anyone at AI is a hot topic right now. We heard from the panel that it isn't hype, and it isn't going away; if companies don't invest in it now, they might risk falling behind. Some useful insights: 🗝 Rather than seeing AI as the enemy, employees could be empowered to use AI to unlock potential - it should make employees more efficient and productive which might free up more of their time to think critically or strategically, or be more creative ⏲ If time is freed up, employees could start to look at multiple roles around their existing role - what else can an existing role collapse into? 🎻 Companies will still need employees to check whether a piece of software is actually working properly - they will remain domain experts in their chosen field, and orchestrate effective use of AI tools ✍ AI to create content is a non-negotiable for a smaller team with limited resources Such an interesting talk about a very relevant topic. Let's start embracing the change rather than fearing it! Founders - you should also check out #siftedforstartups! #startups #founders #ai #tech

Managing Director at BCG | Technology Executive | Driving Digital Transformation & Innovation | GenAI Strategy | Digital & Data platforms | IT Architecture | Cloud Solutions | Guest Lecturer at UGA | GTA Advisory Board
The adoption of GenAI is at a crossroads for many leaders. Over 50% of them harbor hesitations due to concerns such as limited traceability, potentially poor decision-making, investment priorities, data security, and lack of skills. While these concerns are legitimate, there's a path forward to overcome them and unlock GenAI's full potential. A recent survey conducted by my BCG colleagues reveals that successful GenAI adopters share common strategies. They invest in innovative startups, forge strategic partnerships, develop new in-house capabilities, and recognize the critical importance of hiring and upskilling initiatives. By following this proven path, companies can not only address their concerns but also harness the transformative power of GenAI. #AI #GenAI #Talent https://lnkd.in/gYJ8DQjn

If the tech team told you you can do it, it doesn't mean it will be easy Many companies see potential in GenAI applications. However there is a common pitfall companies often fall into: it's culture. GenAI is a very powerful technology that enables processes and Improvements that until 2 years ago were IMPOSSIBLE. Furthermore, GenAI is very inflated: lots of people is talking about GenAI (me too 😎 ). This is happening because the impact is transversal to departments and skills. This is a measure of the impact it has. This wave is something that, in a way or another, will affect people. There will be some that will benefit from GenAI (and maybe they don't even know it), others will have their job at risk (especially if they don't leverage this as an opportunity). So, if it's technically doable will the company do it? In my experience, a likely answer is NO. Especially if the company isn't tech-native. ♦ NO because if the company doesn't invest time and resources in explaining HOW the team can LEVERAGE GenAI, the people will feel threatened. ♦ NO because if people are fearing this new wave, they won't sponsor it and won't be motivated in using/including the new processes - this making them useless. In my opinion, a manager/head of/founder/owner should invest in a series of strategic workshops to task and discuss with the colleagues what is AI and GenAI, how it works and how can be exploited by humans. Otherwise, the risk is that the AI/GenAI initiatives will fall apart. My suggestion for non-tech companies is to begin this transformation step-by-step: it's not a race, you want to maximize the ROI of this new technology and this can only happen through the people that work in the company. Have you ever considered or experienced this? What are your thoughts? Let's chat below! 👇🏻 #genai #strategy #people #founder #ceo #manager #company #innovation

Disruption isn't just a buzzword; it's a wake-up call. 🚀 As a veteran in disruptive tech, I've witnessed first-hand how innovation can redefine industries. But as we stand on the brink of the generative AI revolution, a question looms large: How do we help legacy businesses not just survive but thrive in this new era? Generative AI isn't just changing the game; it's rewriting the rulebook. Yet, I believe the future doesn't have to be a zero-sum game where only the new disruptors win. There's immense value in enabling existing businesses to bridge the technological chasm. Why? Firstly, it's about the benefit of preserving jobs. It's also about leveraging the deep industry knowledge and customer insights these organizations hold. The key lies in collaboration. It's time for tech innovators and industry veterans to join forces, sharing insights, and paving a path forward together. This partnership could be the cornerstone of a more inclusive, resilient, and dynamic economy. Let's champion a future where progress benefits everyone. 🌉 What ideas do you have for how we can enable this collaboration?

Global Head of Data & Analytics • Ernst & Young, NBCUniversal • Keynote Speaker • Ultra-Runner • Sharing thoughts about leadership & self-growth.
I used to think innovation meant taking big risks. I was wrong. It’s not about trying to change the world (although that is a possibility). It’s about trying something new without knowing the outcome. This could be trialing a new process or giving new software a go (here’s looking at you ChatGPT marketplace). Innovation is not about reinventing the wheel It’s about trying something knowing it may fail. That’s the exciting part. Learning more than you knew at the beginning. Innovation doesn’t have to be big grand plans. We can’t all: - Make reusable rockets - Put a million songs in your pocket - Make a global eccomerce book store Sure they’re exciting and change the world. But some of the best innovation is small and simple. Some that come to mind include: - The fufuzela - The biro. - The zip. Ever heard of the choccy box? A brilliantly simple yet powerful invention - do check it out. What does this have to do with leadership ? I believe leaders have a responsibility to innovate. Or at the very least challenge the status quo. Opportunities to innovate may not be obvious but challenging your assumptions is the starting point. - If failure wasn’t an option, would you still do it that way? If the answer is no, you have an opportunity to try some stuff. This is the exciting part. Best way to do it? * Think big > start small > fail quickly. Don’t hold back. Move quickly. Be brave. Recently I looked at reworking investment models using AI. Would it work? Who knows. But hell, let’s find out. This is when you need great minds like Maxwell Lay and Sara Gad True leadership is identifying an opportunity & then letting bright minds go after it. That’s when the fun stuff happens. PS - How do you encourage innovation? #Leadership #Innovation ~~~ ✍️ Thoughts on this? ♻️ Reshare if I got it right.
