🍌 "If you offer bananas, you will attract monkeys." 🐒
This quote perfectly captures the essence of incentives and motivation in the workplace. As employers, it's essential to recognize that the quality of incentives directly impacts the caliber of talent you attract. Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all rewards. To truly engage top-tier professionals, we must tailor incentives that align with their aspirations.
Employees, on the other hand, should seek organizations that value their growth and contribution beyond just superficial perks. Aim for workplaces that offer growth opportunities, skill development, and a sense of purpose. Remember, your career journey should be a quest for meaningful impact, not just a basket of bananas.
Let's discuss: What incentives do you believe truly drive exceptional performance? Employers and employees, share your thoughts below! Together, let's build workplaces that foster genuine growth and attract talent that's ready to reach new heights. 🚀🌟 #IncentivesMatter#MotivationMatters#employeeretention#employeemotivation

Key takeaways ( not food 🍔🍟🍕) :
1.) Aligning work with meaning for talent engagement
2.) Traditional stereotypes of career pathways and their collapse
3.) Reskilling for retention
4.) Empathy regaining importance in the workplace.

🌍 Navigating Identity in the Workplace: A Local Perspective
As a person rooted in the vibrant culture of Kenya, I've had the privilege of witnessing the rich tapestry of diversity that shapes our global workforce. Yet, within this mosaic, there's a nuanced dynamic that often goes unspoken – the interplay between expatriate leadership and local talent.
Having grown up immersed in the traditions and values of Kenya, I bring a unique perspective to the table. However, I've also found myself navigating the complexities of working under expatriate leadership, a scenario familiar to many of us.
There's a delicate balance between honoring diverse viewpoints and ensuring that local expertise isn't overshadowed. While expatriate leaders bring valuable insights and experiences, it's crucial to recognize the wealth of knowledge and cultural understanding that local talent possesses.
Through collaboration and mutual respect, we can bridge the gap between different perspectives and harness the power of diversity to drive innovation and success. As a local professional with roots intertwined with those of expatriates, I believe in fostering an inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued.
Let's continue to champion diversity and create workplaces where individuals from all backgrounds can thrive and contribute meaningfully.

The one thing to do in order to enable inclusion and diversity:
Make sure that your HR department, recruiters, and decision makers are representing inclusion and diversity.
Now have a look around: How inclusive and diverse is your HR department, recruiters, and decision makers???
My experience in Norway so far: Norwegians hire Norwegians. Local Norwegians hire local Norwegians.
When we do hire internationals it's all too often because we don't have sufficient numbers of qualified Norwegian applicants...
The situation suggests that too many good international applicants are losing out to lesser qualified Norwegians.
“Nordics still don’t embrace diversity as a business imperative.” (BCG, 2021)

Well-being: a pivotal part of EVP or something more profound? 🤔
In today's corporate landscape, prioritizing employee well-being is a common denominator, globally recognized as a tool for attracting top talent and addressing the challenges of remote work and burnout. However, here in Ukraine, it takes on an extra layer - it's all about resilience.
With Ukrainians navigating the complexities of the 2d year of war&work&life balance, companies are earnestly seeking ways to support their employees in maintaining this equilibrium.
Viktor Marchenko and I had the privilege of sharing Raiffeisen Bank Ukraine experiences at the HR Pro Awards on November 9th. Our HR Strategy's slogan, "People @ Heart," underscores that our focus is on People and Care, not merely on EVP or metrics.
It's heartening to see companies in the market engaging in a friendly "competition" to outshine each other in supporting their employees during these challenging times. Essentially, we're collectively lighting a beacon in the darkness.
Fingers crossed for the award results tomorrow! 🤞
Two of the main causes for east-west professional miscommunication:
1. Being collectivist societies, Asian professionals often feel obliged to executive tasks from the higher management almost immediately. This could result in frustration, burnout and less job satisfaction.
Possible solution:
*Slow down, think strategically and work smartly. The concept of success in the west is output and performance based, rather than labour-intensive as in many parts of Asia.
2. Asian professionals are generally less inclined towards personal branding and marketing. As a result, they would miss out on key opportunities for career progression.
Possible solutions:
* Network with your western bosses, colleagues and partners
* Leave your comfort zone
* Reach out to people. Ask for help and advice when needed
* Engage in conversations, share ideas and market your skills!

As the Co-Chair of Transport for NSW's Multicultural Network, I am happy to share with my network a report released recently by the NSW Public Sector Commission (PSC) summarising key findings from consultations across government and industry. This has been foundational in building strategies for increasing cultural diversity in senior leadership in the sector. The action plan includes four focus areas to address career pathways and development, structural bias, support structures and workplace cultural safety, and valuing cultural strength. These actions will be brought to life through a series of projects over the next 3 years to 2025.
The four areas of focus are:
* representation and pathways to the senior executive level
* opportunities to develop inclusivity across the employee lifecycle
* building support structures forCALD employees across the sector
* building frameworks for workplace cultural safety and belonging
