Have you ever wanted to explore an ancient city, right in the Midwestern USA? Perhaps even a walled temple complex, in say, Wisconsin? Part of our social mission with our GiantLands is to raise awareness and monies for research and preservation of these ancients sites that are all over this great nation. There are more of these great, dare we say giant, earthworks in Wisconsin than anywhere else in the USA, and the world. One such site is called "Aztalan", a state park off I-94 between Madison & Milwaukee, northwest of Lake Geneva. You can find it also on the GL North American Adventure Map 1 in the 1E Boxed set. They were not built by giants, but by native Americans. There are two periods of human settlement we can now identify at Aztalan. The signage in the park is a great way to learn facts about how these wonderful sites were built and about the cultures that existed there. Friends of Aztalan State Park is raising funds to build a visitor center. A long time goal, almost accomplished, but we need some finishings funds. Our founder, Stephen E. Dinehart, is a lifetime member, & at times during the summer you can find him there guiding visitors in the exploration of our collective ancient heritage. (If you grab a copy of GL in park, 100% of the sale is donated directly to Friends of Aztalan.) Donations are currently being matched, and we need to raise only 150k more to complete the project and make it operational. Might you care to chip in? Ancient trees are a valuable natural resource and can't be replaced like-for-like. Planting new trees after felling an ancient tree is neither good nor sustainable practice. Ancient and veteran trees need our help in protecting them.
Big Give’s Green Match Fund One donation, twice the impact - raising funds to support and develop the ATF’s Local Groups. Thank you to those who have donated to the campaign. If you haven’t already donated, there are 24 hours remaining to have donation doubled: https://lnkd.in/eBHB8gaH Ancient Tree Forum – advocating for ancient and other veteran trees, their wildlife, and their heritage and cultural values to be safeguarded now and in the future.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow...
Documenting this moment - today I got to touch the very first donation for the new Heritage Centre in Hyndburn. Beautiful teeny tiny children’s clogs, owned by Ethel - who was born almost 100 years ago in Accrington. These will help community stories come to life, whilst we imagine a walk through Accrington Town Square in Ethel’s shoes! #Heritage #AccringtonTownSquare

With this one I was playing around with texture a bit with a super close up image of an elephant's skin. I think it creates a little bit of visual intrigue as people wonder what exactly are they looking at. Then in terms of visual hierarchy the outcomes of a donation are front and center with a slightly understated CTA button to make a recurring donation. #emaildesign #emailmarketing #design https://lnkd.in/gpbcGYak

I was on honoured when Disabled Motoring UK asked me to donate to their auction. When I started Chamiah Dewey Fashion, it was always part of my vision, too, be a charitable and community driven brand. As the U.K.’s first clothing, brand for short, stature people under 5 foot, I’m passionate about making our pieces accessible to our customer. While our prices will never match the likes of Primark (because we do not believe in unethical and unsustainable practices), taking part in auctions like this one mean that are some of our pieces are a little more attainable. If you didn’t already know, ‘Disabled Motoring UK is the charity which supports disabled drivers, passengers and Blue Badge holders.’ They ‘work with government and businesses across the UK in order to improve parking, refuelling, and access provision for disabled people, so that they can access the goods and services that they need.’ We know that accessible parking refuelling and access for disabled people is abysmal in the UK, in many places; so there’s no better time to be a great ally, and take part in Disabled Motoring UK’s auction. Let me know if you see our bridal gown featured!! #AdaptiveFashion #DisabilityAwareness #InclusiveFashion #DEI #StartUp #Entrepreneur #SmallBusiness #Auction #DisabledParking #Access

Today the team have hit a MASSIVE milestone!! LESS THAN 1,000 NAUTICAL MILES TO GOOOOO!!! 🥳🎉🎊 • This is a huge moment for the team - and it probably means more to them than just dropping below a nice round number. 🤔 • As they row, they have a number of repeater dials on the outside of the cabin in front of them. These are small square readouts that repeat some of the information from their main computer so they can see it whilst they row. In particular they have one that tells them how far they have left to row. 🖥️ • Before now, it's said 1002nm, and then about 20-30 minutes later it's clicked down to 1001nm, and so on. But now they're into 3 digit territory, and that leaves space for an all important decimal point. 🤔 • Now the dial says 999.9nm and then just 2-3 minutes later it'll change to 999.8! They're not going any faster of course, but having that feedback ten times more frequently, can make a huge difference psychologically. 🧠 • Now they can row really hard for 90 seconds and potentially see a change in the distance to go - it encourages them to be faster and more competitive - and that's just what they need as they head down the final stretch! 🏇 • Photo by @Atlanticdash • Throughout this crossing the team will be raising money for @GetAHeadCharity and @Meningitis_Now - please donate today at https://lnkd.in/ewFcK9Vg (link in bio) or use the text messaging service: TEXT ROW1 to 70191 to DONATE £10 TEXT ROW3 to 70191 to DONATE £30 • @lodders_solicitors @bromwichhardy • #thebrightsides #brightsides #oceanrowing #rannoch #atlanticocean #atlanticrow #oceanrow #oceanlife #rowing #rowinglife #atlanticdash #getahead #meningitisnow

As Perth's climate becomes progressively drier and hotter, the issue of water conservation becomes increasingly critical. The severe stress on our increasingly scarce water supply demands creative solutions. These solutions should provide alternatives to traditional urban green spaces, like lawns, which consume a lot of water. These spaces, need to be transformed into functional areas that are also environmentally friendly and conserve water. One such creative solution can be observed at East Butler Primary School, where a Miyawaki forest has brilliantly replaced lawn. After the initial establishment phase, which typically lasts two to three years, these forests require little to no upkeep, positioning themselves as a waterwise alternative to traditional lawn. No doubt, these forests offer a tangible, visual representation of how creativity can produce environmentally conscious designs in urban spaces. #miyawakiforest #urbandesign #urbanforest #tinyforest #urbangreening Grey Coupland Harry Butler Institute Murdoch University East Butler Primary School Louise-Marlena Tarrier GAICD
We are very impressed with the results of this Miyawaki forest at East Butler Primary School in just 7 months! This pocket forest was planted in July 2023 by Dr Grey Coupland from the Harry Butler Institute. We are looking forward to planting many more Miyawaki forests this planting season! If you would like to support these projects please visit our website to make a donation today. #MiyawakiMethod #PocketForest #plantatree #australia #murdochuniversity

Memorial Day and the Poppy: Have you seen red poppies on Memorial Day and wondered why? The famous red poppy finds its origins on the battlefields of World War I. After the conflict, this unassuming flower became a symbol of remembrance and respect for those who bravely served their country. The association between the red poppy and Memorial Day can be attributed to the poem "In Flanders Fields" by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. He was moved by the sight of poppies blooming among the graves of fallen soldiers, forever linking the red poppy with the reverence of Memorial Day. Beyond its symbolism of remembrance and honor, the red poppy also underscores the importance of consumer protection, particularly in the realm of charitable giving. Organizations selling poppies or soliciting donations, it's crucial to exercise caution and ensure that our contributions truly support veterans and their families. Tips for Responsible Giving: 1. Research: Before making a donation or purchasing poppies, research the organization behind the fundraising effort. One way to do this is by checking reputable websites to verify the organization's reputation and track record, here are some examples: -Better Business Bureau (BBB) Wise Giving Alliance: https://give.org/ -Charity Navigator: https://lnkd.in/dVpiCm4 -GuideStar: https://www.guidestar.org/ 2. Ask Questions: Want to know about how donations will be utilized and the specific programs or services they support, it’s ok to ask questions. 3. Donate Directly: Consider donating directly to well-established veterans' organizations or programs that offer direct assistance to veterans and their families. #MemorialDay #ConsumerProtection #RedPoppy #SupportOurHeroes #IdahoAttorneyGeneral
