Smart companies understand the significance of employer branding in attracting top talent and so craft engaging career pages. A wise move.👌 However, they forget a crucial point.🤔 The majority of talent exploring career opportunities look on platforms like LinkedIn, Glassdoor and FOUND first.🕵️♀️ So it's vital for companies to ensure these profiles are current and showcase their employer brand. That first impression could be the deciding factor in whether top talent consider you or not!🌟 As holidays means hiring is a little slower, now is an excellent time to refresh, and strengthen these profiles ready for the hiring ahead. #talent #attraction #employerbrand

In the ever-evolving job market, Jason Shen's TED Talk "Looking for a Job? Highlight Your Ability, Not Your Experience" offers a pivotal shift in perspective. Shen, transitioning from biology to tech, epitomizes the increasing misalignment between educational paths and career trajectories. This discrepancy, as Shen notes, affects a significant portion of the workforce - with only a quarter of graduates finding employment in their studied field. Shen's journey to becoming a product manager at a tech firm, despite initial rejections, is a testament to the power of showcasing potential. His proactive approach to analyzing and proposing solutions for Etsy, even before being hired, underlines the necessity of ability-based hiring. His talk raises crucial questions about our existing hiring practices. With rapid technological advancements and a dynamic job landscape, the conventional emphasis on credentials and specific experiences seems increasingly inadequate. Shen advocates for identifying and nurturing talent based on potential and adaptability, urging a reevaluation of how we perceive job qualifications. This approach is not just a job seeker's strategy but a call for systemic change in hiring practices. Employers are encouraged to look beyond traditional resumes and consider candidates' inherent abilities and potential to grow and adapt. This shift could unlock untapped potential and foster a more dynamic and capable workforce. #CareerDevelopment #JobHunting #TEDTalks #FutureOfWork #TalentAcquisition #skillsbasedhiring

Job descriptions are written based on past experience. They don’t allow for job or role innovation. They extrapolate historical experience into the future. They don’t reimagine what new talent might look like. This is where job prejudice comes from. It does not matter if you don’t look the part. Just get better at the role. Your turn will come.

Tired of the "who you know" game in hiring? It's time we shift the focus to what you CAN DO! Here's why: Skills, not schools, predict success. - Real-world experience and a strong skillset are far more valuable than a fancy degree. - Hidden gems are everywhere. Focusing on connections excludes talented individuals who might not have a traditional background. - Growth potential matters. Looking beyond past roles allows you to identify candidates with the potential to excel in your company. That's why I created a new hiring system focused on aptitude analysis! We assess foundational skills for the role and how candidates showcase them in their work. This approach helps us find individuals who are ready to grow and thrive in our environment. I have been sewing and making clothes and fashion-related projects since I was 7 years old, but by my resume, you'd never know! My experience in design and fashion helps with marketing, branding, presentations, and so much more in the role I have today. Go beyond what your last work-related experience was. Showcase your projects, your interests, and what you can do and how it applies to the job at hand. https://lnkd.in/eTijrM7R
