If you’re a freelancer with more than 3 case studies and a steady stream of clients, you need to increase your prices. I know it’s tempting to take on work at lower prices, as having more clients adds financial security. I’ve done the same, but this strategy only leads to burnouts in the long run. You need to increase your prices and take only high-paying clients instead. Here’s how: 1. Know Your Worth Do your research to understand the going market rates for the service you provide at your skill level. Look at what competitors charge. Talk to other freelancers. This gives you a benchmark to work from. 2. Calculate Your Costs Factor in all your overhead expenses - taxes, tools, continuing education, etc. Calculate an hourly rate that covers costs and provides your desired income. Don't forget to account for unpaid work like client meetings. 3. Consider Value Provided If your service provides significant value like increased sales or revenue, charge a premium. For example, freelance designers who help clients rebrand and improve conversions can justifiably charge more. 4. Account for Specialized Skills The more specialized your skills, the higher you can price your services. For example, freelance mobile app developers can charge more than standard web developers. 5. Remember Context Consider factors like client size, project scale, and turnaround time. Be open to negotiating if a client has specific constraints, but don't undersell yourself. I revise my prices every 6 months, as long as I can add more case studies to my portfolio. The bottom line - know what you deserve to earn based on your expertise, costs, and value delivered. It's been a year and a half since we started our freelance business as an experiment, and the results have been better than we ever expected! We both realized through our discussions that we couldn't experiment or make our own decisions with our full-time jobs. Sharon V, a self-taught web developer without a technical degree, and Minhaj AT, a master of many trades despite not being from a technical field (graphic design, motion design, development, UI/UX design) – you won't find expertise like his at such a young age! I, with a BA in English and experience in digital marketing, may not seem like the perfect fit, but we gave it a shot and discovered it could work. We knew we couldn't fully explore our ideas while stuck in our day jobs. Everything, from income to creativity, felt limited. So, we decided to form a group to take on freelance projects. We offered services like digital marketing, web design and development, and motion and video work – all at affordable rates for small businesses. Starting with a friend's business gave us the confidence to take on other projects. We formalized ourselves as a small business called "Think plan execute." I managed our social media channels, ran ads, and pitched compelling projects. Minhaj and Sharon then developed and designed websites. We also collaborated on digital marketing for our clients. This approach allowed us to experiment and achieve some fantastic results: Through this experience, we've: > Created 5 beautifully optimized websites. > Completed 2 SEO projects, successfully ranking 2 websites in the Saudi market. > Managed over 30,000 in ad spend for clients. > Earned an income comparable to our regular jobs in some months. This experience has been invaluable. We've learned new skills like creating proposals and invoices, improved our communication skills, and become better at client management – even how to identify and avoid bad clients. Some of my Secret Ways to Stabilize My Freelance Business. Feel Free to Steal It. As a Web Designer, you know that it's not going to be repetitive work until you know the power of your offer. 1. MY OFFER CONSISTS OF THESE THINGS: --> Managing the Website after the completion of the project. I like to charge for it on a monthly basis and packages. --> Scaling the website more, if the client gets results. Once you start getting results, The Client will happily pay for scaling. 2. Only your offer can't save you, you have to also COLLABORATE and build a network with other service providers. Have started this thing recently. --> I like to Collaborate with Copywriters, Growth Marketers, Performance Marketers, and agencies. 3. LEARN other things and include them in your offer like --> Systems --> Automation --> Integrations --> Building Complex Websites. The problem of stabilized income is 85% Solved if you know how to do these because clients don't have to pay big as$ amounts to agencies, as they have a Freelancer to do all that. Now this results in referrals because many designers don't know about it. 4. CHOOSE GOOD CLIENTS Don't work with any Client you meet on a sales call and Remove the fear that you will not get your next client. Be very selective and Selfish before choosing. PS- What's your Way?
