Values. As a team, we've spent a lot of time recently really thinking deeply about our Values, and how they work in practice. Often given lip service, they actually need to be fundamental to how all decisions are made. Like the roots of a tree. Here's ours: 1. Kindness. This broadly encompasses empathy; respect; active listening; generosity, and a desire to help (we're medical professionals, right?) 2. Trust. Accountability to the team; standing together; your colleagues have your back, and you have theirs. 3. Innovation. • Thinking outside the box; openness to progressive change when the benefits are proven; a thirst for learning; a proactive approach to creative problem-solving. Which can be traced back to the culture of establishing power dynamics, misguided competition, misperception of leadership. In reality, it's quite the opposite. The respect you garner is directly linked to the respect you extend to everyone, regardless of their role or age. Why? Because people have a remarkable memory for how you've made them feel. When you treat your colleagues, regardless of their title or age, with kindness and consideration, it doesn't lower your status; it elevates it. You build trust, form strong connections, and people start seeing you as that awesome team player. Your reputation as someone who's got your act together and respects others becomes your secret weapon, opening up opportunities and boosting your career.
