In today's fast-paced and often isolating world, it's easy to feel disconnected from those around us. But community is more than just a nice-to-have - it's a vital necessity for our well-being and happiness. In recent times, we've faced unprecedented challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, economic uncertainty, and social isolation. Amidst these challenges, it's more important than ever to have a strong sense of community to turn to. Community provides us with a sense of belonging, support and connection. It gives us a platform to share our experiences, learn from others, and find comfort in times of need. When we're part of a community, we feel seen, heard, and valued. Moreover, community has the power to bring people together, foster empathy and understanding, and create positive change in our lives and the world around us. So let's prioritise community building and nurturing the connections that make us stronger. Let's come together, support each other, and build a brighter future for all. Join us in celebrating the importance of community and let's make a difference!
The Newtown Community Association serves the extended community around Belmont Park, Newtown in Exeter. They aim to connect with people in Exeter and surrounding areas through events and activities. Their community centre offers function rooms for corporate and private hire, suitable for meetings, celebrations, and personal activities. The association invites people to join and be part of their vibrant community.

Leadership Coach Consultant (Trailblazer Programme)/🌳 CEO at Waltham Forest Community Hub (views are my own) / Director of Stow Inspire CIC / Founder of Ma Learning Institute / Motivational Speaker
Does your organisation want to grow in 2024? 🌱 Growth requires the willingness to 'embrace' change. 🌱 Waltham Forest Community Hub has embraced many changes... https://lnkd.in/eW3HkYWS * we pivoted to pick up increasing needs due to the cost of living crisis (providing more housing advice & introducing 1-1 energy warmth advice), * reviewed our fundraising strategy and increased our focus on raising funds (increasing income by 12%), * our Trustee Board doubled the number of trustees, * we restructured and increased our leadership capacity, * we won the Prestige Community Centre of the year Award and were a nominee of a Charity Times Award. * What an incredible year! 🌱 My greatest learning has been to say 'NO' to sitting on Tables that don't support our charity or serve our purpose. 🌱 Our energy & time is precious. Since capacity is so limited in small charities to prevent you from burnout: 1️⃣ put your greatest attention to cutting back by saying 'NO', 2️⃣ Ask for more money from Funders, Sponsors & Donors and 3️⃣ Be innovative about increasing capacity. Our Trustee Board has 2 Vice Chairs. 🌱 If you are unlikely to get core or capacity building funding, look for solutions outside the box. 🌱 I'm relieved to start the year with Trevor Duberry JP as Co-chairs of the Waltham Forest VCSE Leadership Group. 🌱 I intend to only be where I can make the greatest difference! #charityceos how do you intend to be more strategic this year? #leadershipmatters #walthamforest #smallbusinessgrowth #creatingchange

Food, Help & Hope - Most of us take these three words for granted. Those who volunteer at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey know that these words are a mantra that helps thousands of volunteers help those in need. Have you ever volunteered? If you have - terrific, watch this video to see what your doing to help others! If you have not - Here's how you too can learn more about those three words. https://lnkd.in/e9nJe9ay

Can we reform the Care System in the UK and also recruit more Foster Carers? This requires long term government plan, support from all parties in the political spectrum, actual designated management team (department or agency of non-party political civil service) and of course buy-in from the population. I, personally, believe that we only will ever have the last one. So, my answer to your question is: we can, but we won't. Not until the system for electing governments starts depending on majority of votes casted, not most votes gained per county. As long as we have small portion of "swing voters" to decide the government, this will not be priority enough for any major political party.

Transformation Tuesday! Civic Engagement within The Journey Project is a dynamic and integral component designed to inspire participants to actively participate in community initiatives. This aspect is built on the belief that fostering a sense of responsibility and belonging not only enhances personal development but also contributes to the overall well-being of the community. Here's an in-depth look at how Civic Engagement is implemented: 1. **Community Initiatives:** Participants are encouraged to identify and engage in community-based projects and activities. These initiatives span a wide range, from volunteering at local events to contributing to environmental or social causes. By actively participating, individuals become proactive contributors to positive community development. 2. **Collaborative Partnerships:** The program establishes partnerships with local organizations, charities, and community groups. This opens avenues for participants to collaborate on projects that align with the needs of the community, creating a sense of shared purpose and impact. 3. **Educational Workshops:** Workshops and seminars on civic responsibility and community development are integrated into the program. Participants gain insights into the importance of active citizenship, learning about the impact of their contributions to the community. Civic Engagement in The Journey Project is not just a part of the program; it’s a philosophy that shapes individuals into active, responsible citizens, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose within the broader community. Through these initiatives, participants discover the transformative power of their actions in creating positive change. #civicengagement #leadershipdevelopment #reentrymatters #secondchances #thejourneyprojecttukwila

Earlier this year, a group of #Coventry citizens gathered for our #ConnectingForGoodCov Collaboration Station and, through their shared experiences, created the 'Need The Loo' campaign 🚽 They were motivated to act on hearing the experiences of different people needing easy access to public toilets without fuss. Most struggling with our city centre's current provision 🚫 So they invited more people to contribute their experiences by survey and this week, following World Toilet Day (19 November), they released some of their findings... 💬 "It takes careful planning to go out. I need to know beforehand what is open and what is accessible." 💬 "Having to purchase a coffee to use the loo is not right. It's another disability tax." 💬 "When going into the city centre, I have to limit what I drink so I won't need to go to the toilet as much." People shared their opinions of the worst and best public toilets. They shared their strategies to cope too - reducing time spent in the city centre and only being able to go to certain places, for example. So what would the 'Need The Loo' team like next? They would love to share their recommendations with city decision-makers. They would also love to hear from anyone with lived experience of these issues. If you can help, contact community organiser Melissa Smith or by email to mvsmith@grapevinecovandwarks.org. #ShiftingPower #SparkingCommunity #CommunityOrganising #NeedTheLoo #Accessibility Connecting for Good is a movement against isolation and marginalisation, sparked by Grapevine and local people, towards a more inclusive, better connected Coventry. Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
