NATIONAL MARINE WEEK October 7-15 THE IMPORTANCE OF NATIONAL MARINE WEEK The purpose of national marine week is to create awareness on marine and coastal environments, as well as to promote sustainable use and conservation of these resources. WHAT YOU CAN DO TO GET INVOLVED ● Get involved with beach clean-ups. ● When visiting the beach,take a bag for your rubbish, and encourage everyone to collect a few pieces of litter while there. ● Support marine and coastal organisations. WAYS TO HELP OUR OCEANS AT HOME- Reduce pollutants and waste. IN GENERAL- Shop wisely, reduce vehicle pollution, and use less energy. I was able to enjoy some wonderful days in Greece this year - a country with beautiful beaches and clear water on remote islands. That the way to the islands is made an ordeal by obsolete diesel engines due to a vast amount of noise and harmful exhaust fumes is obvious but not my main concern here (because there are suitable solutions for this at Torqeedo) But therefore this one little plaque of the International Convention for the Prevention of Marine Pollution from Ships that I found on the ship and looked at it (probably the only one) closer. • Why is it okay to dump trash in the ocean? • What milder circumstances give distances from the mainland? • shouldn’t there be only ‚special areas‘ ? • Why do we care so little for our environment? The lack of respect for nature is worrying. Lucky for some that the Mediterranean is a special Area, but this does not solve the general problem of sea pollution worldwide The real change to the proper treatment of nature must take place in our minds #PleasurePowerRespect I am glad to work for a company that has this aspect in mind among many other! #Torqeedo #greenboating #sustainability #timeforachange #welovewater #OceanBottle

A clean environment provides not only fresh breath (good quality life) but also guarantees a sustained fresh breath. This is one of the coastal beaches that had lost attraction simply because of pollution. Mass plastics and other debris would basically invite or rather welcome you to this beach. See the contrast now, individual efforts of one soul are bearing fruits, bringing a new look and fresh breath and soon enough, you will see tourists (both local and foreign) flocking to this beach courtesy of the effort of an individual. The big question is, what if we all started being responsible towards how we handle our waste? I firmly believe that we can actually control the amount of wastes that end up into our ocean waters if we chose to, but because we haven't chosen to go that way, we are intoxicating the marine ecosystem and marine life in general putting some species which are endangered into an extinction threat.
