At the core, ending youth homelessness is a cause rooted deeply in justice. Individuals who are Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) experience homelessness at disproportionate rates. In 2023, 47% of TGTHR youth identified as BIPOC, which motivates us to build the most diverse, equitable, and inclusive community that we can at TGTHR, ensuring every young person feels embraced, safe, uplifted, and valued. The celebrations of Juneteenth may have started in 1865, but it did not become a federally recognized holiday until 2021. Change often stems from thoughtful dialogue, information sharing, and open listening. Conversations with those who possess different viewpoints, partake in harmful misinformation, and or may just be unaware of the current challenges plaguing the Black community are what drive awareness and the shifting of mindsets. It is critical that we continue to initiate conversations not only related to the injustices that have plagued the Black community but also the persistent inequalities that exist in our society against all communities of color. TGTHR’s Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee is focused on building an organization that is truly diverse and inclusive, and have many initiatives in the works at TGTHR. Read about how TGTHR is recognizing Juneteenth, and additional ways you can be an ally: https://lnkd.in/epyE5Hs6 #juneteenth #celebratingdiversity #endingyouthhomelessness #JEDI #DEI #beanally #BIPOC #BIPOCyouth

Shame on Cumberland Council! Queer people exist. Same-sex parents exist. Trans, gender diverse and nonbinary people exist. We. Are. Not. An. Issue. The only issue with our existence is that we have to keep defending our rights to exist. Last week, Cumberland Council, passed a motion that continues to set set a precident, and feed and perpetuate the unnecessary fear and ignorant misinformation of the LGBTQ+ community. Further, this action continues to jeopardise the safety of rainbow families and any future coexistence of our public communities. They passed an amendment to the Library Strategy 2024-2027 that bans books featuring same-sex parents from our public libraries. "This crosses a dangerous line. Our area welcomes people of all backgrounds and beliefs, we’re not about banning books just because someone does not like who is in them." Sign the petition here, and please share widely. https://lnkd.in/gwHaWd-X #LGBTQ+ #Sydney #RainbowFamilies #Diversity #Inclusion #Equality #Equity #EqualRights #HumanRights ##Discrimination #lgbtqbooks #lgbtqcommunity Equality Australia Rainbow Families

Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust Grants - Rounds 1 and 2 – Disability, specifically projects and initiatives that improve employment and training. Grants are available to registered UK charities that work with communities in the UK for projects that address specific categories set out by the Trust each year. The funding is intended to support those in society who face the greatest challenges and whose opportunities are the most limited. The Trust operates a three-year rotation system, with different fields of interests being funded each year. In 2024, the focus is on Disability, specifically employment and training to ensure better access, and Food Poverty given the increasing levels across the UK. The Trust awards grants of either £1,000 or £5,000 depending on the grant round. The level of grant awarded is determined by the income of the charity, see website for further information. Support will be available for the following priorities in 2024: Rounds 1 and 2 – Disability, specifically projects and initiatives that improve employment and training. Rounds 3 and 4 – Food Poverty, across the UK, it is clear this is a major issue, and they want to award grants to support projects addressing this. The project must fall within the relevant category for the year the application is submitted, and organisations may only make one application during any one year. There are normally four application rounds per year with applications accepted for one month only, usually in February, April, July and September. Charities can only apply for one round per calendar year. Round 1 opens on 1 February and closes on 28 February 2024. Child Advocates is not afraid to have the critical conversations about racism. Our CEO and our Chief of Community, Equity, and Inclusion share their insight on the Community Connection show on Radio One's AM 1310 'The Light": 🔷"We've gone backwards. After the George Floyd murder, people were heard and seen more loudly and more open to having the conversations about racism. But I think there has been a shift. It seems it's not even okay to talk about race equity work anymore. We're losing roles in DEI. It seems like we are going in a different direction." - Phyllis Armstrong/ Child Advocates CEO 🔷"The intention of racism is to keep all of us divided so that we can't come together collectively to create healthier communities...Some people are not understanding that the impact of racism is on everyone, just in much different ways." - Jill English/Chief of Community, Equity, and Inclusion Child Advocates leaders also discuss who pays the price due to racism: our children. Children are the reason we launched a race equity program nearly 15 years ago for anyone in the community. We want to build a better future for every child. Today, our "Interrupting Racism for Children" workshops have reached thousands of people as we grow and learn together. Hear this important conversation on interrupting racism at 46 minutes into the show: https://ow.ly/zpNh50S8C6u #racialequity #inclusion #diversity #DEI #children #childadvocacy #justice #equity #wellbeing #childwelfare #nonprofit

Epidemiologist | Founder & Executive Director of The Thurman Perry Foundation | Advocate for Women & Girls
#KnowUs The Thurman Perry Foundation is a Black woman lead 501(c)3 organization that exists to combat the disadvantages that women and girls who have been impacted by incarceration face in society. As an organization that focuses solely on their needs, we aim to PRIORITIZE, DIGNIFY, and COMPENSATE this sensitive population. These three values guide our decision making and goals as an organization. We aim to COMPENSATE women and girls impacted by incarceration directly to ensure their most pressing immediate needs are adequately met and reduce the rate of recidivism. A kind word and gesture goes a long way, but often in the case of women and girls impacted by incarceration, their most pressing needs are material and financial. They need assistance with paying their rents or mortgages to ensure that they can keep their homes and house their families. They need the funding to purchase books, pay tuition, or secure childcare while they attend school. They need menstrual products to fully and hygienically manage their cycles while incarcerated. TPF crafts it's programming to directly address these needs. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gH4RAQMY
