This spring, #GUESSCares volunteered at Operation Project H.O.P.E.’s annual school beautification event! Their day of community service took place at Dyer Street Elementary school; volunteers helped paint murals, plant gardens, and more! Every mural, every affirmation, every plant, every bench built, everything painted left an incredible impression on the staff and the children at the school. 18,000 hours… That’s how much time our amazing volunteers have spent providing online reading support this school year - meaning they have read with children for a whole two years collectively since last September! Today is the beginning of Volunteers’ Week 2024 (3-9 June), when Chapter One joins thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK. For Chapter One, the week is a real celebration of our 2,700 online reading volunteers and the impact they have on the future of young readers all over the UK. Week in, week out, they are developing fundamental reading skills and inspiring a love for reading from an early age, helping to build confidence in children who might otherwise slip through the cracks.
