We are delighted to share that Noble & Co published our 2nd annual Whisky Intelligence Report today, assessing the auction market for fine and rare whisky. In this report we disclose: - The macro-economic climate is challenging for luxury and collectible assets, and this is weighing on the auction market - For bottles selling over £1,000, the value transacted over the last 12 months is down by 7% although volumes are up by 10% - For bottles sold for £100 or more, the market is flat and volumes are up by 17% - Ultra-rare bottles, such as The Macallan 1926 which sold for a record price recently, are still selling as trophy assets - However, at the top end of the market, there are signs of buyers holding bottles back, or holding firm to reserve prices and not selling bottles - At the lower-priced end, volume growth is very strong due to the rise of ‘flippers’ and consumers seeing it as a source of bottles to drink that they can’t get in the shops - The report features excellent insights by industry experts on the past, present and future of independent bottlers (David Stirk), the future of auctions (Jamie Ritchie), whether packaging matters (Kristiane Sherry) and the challenges of the cask market (Mark Littler) We are grateful for the many brands and partners who worked with us on this report including Brainnwave The Glenturret The Macallan Sotheby's Bonhams Scotch Whisky Auctions Ltd MALTDAQ Whisky.Auction Just Whisky Auctions Speyside Whisky Auctions Limited Glenkeir Whiskies Ltd Aste Bolaffi Prestige Whisky Auction Ltd Volpe & Castello Limited BlockBar #auctions #fineandrare #whisky #luxury #aspirational #highnetworth #ultrahighnetworth #familyoffices #collectors #bottles # To download the report, use this link - https://lnkd.in/esEwQTdc

Auctioning Fine Whisky for Superior Returns Whisky auctions provide an avenue to acquire rare and premium bottles. They offer the ability to bid remotely online or submit pre-bids, with the highest bidder winning the lot. Auction whiskies are typically of exceptional quality and age, carefully authenticated and from respected distilleries. However, intense bidding can drive final prices well above the pre-auction estimates due to competition among collectors. While enabling access to elite expressions, the auction format also risks pricing out some prospective buyers. This is precisely why at Direct Whisky Co., we guide you through selecting the ideal whisky expressions for auctioning. Our expertise ensures you can acquire your preferred whiskies while maximizing the potential benefits of the auction process. We help you identify bottles that will pique collectors' interest, yet remain aligned with your taste preferences. With our insider knowledge, you can confidently pursue rarities that command top prices without compromising on the enjoyment you seek from your whisky collection. Our tailored approach balances investment prospects with drinkability, allowing you to extract optimal value from whisky auctions. #whiskyinvest #investments #caskinvestment #australia #whiskyinvestment #australianbusiness #investmentopportunity #austrlianinvestors🚀 #alternativeInvestments #investment #whisky #autraliainvestment #financialmarket #ukbusiness #WhiskyInvestment #WhiskyCask #rarewhisky #whiskyinvesting #UK #whiskyinvestments #casket #copilot #cask #UKinvestors #wine

Is this the world's oldest Scotch whisky? According to experts, whisky found behind a hidden cellar door in a Scottish castle may be the oldest in existence. About 40 bottles of Scotland's national drink were discovered in Blair Castle in Perthshire late last year. Research in the castle's archives and carbon dating technology suggest the contents date back to the early 1800s. It may even be the same whisky that Queen Victoria and Prince Albert tasted during a trip to the castle in 1844. Macallan: World's 'most valuable' whisky to go for auction A bottle of single malt whisky from The Macallan distillery is set to go for auction next month, with an estimated price of up to £1.2m, auction house Sotheby's has said. It said The Macallan 1926 was known to be the most sought-after Scotch whisky. This was confirmed when a similar bottle was sold in 2019 for a record-breaking £1.5m. The latest sale will be the first time since then that a bottle from the same cask has been brought to auction. The cask was distilled in 1926 and aged in sherry casks for six decades before being bottled in 1986. Just 40 bottles were produced and they were reportedly not made available for purchase - instead, some were offered to The Macallan's top clients. The appearance of any of these bottles at auction over the years has resulted in extraordinary results. #investment #opportunity #whiskycollection #whiskylover #whiskybarrel #whiskycask #invest #investor #Investing #investors #assets #asset #assetmanagement #assetprotection #whisky #whiskylife #scotland #scottish #scottishbusiness https://lnkd.in/g9awYkaF

The Oldest Whisky in the World: A Remarkable Discovery Several bottles of whisky, believed to be the oldest in the world, have recently been unearthed in the historic Blair Castle in Scotland. Dating back to 1833, the same batch was once enjoyed by Queen Victoria herself during her stay at the castle in 1844. The discovery has attracted the attention of collectors, with bids already reaching thousands of pounds for each bottle. The cache of 24 dusty bottles, out of a total of around 40, was found hidden behind a cellar door in the 750-year-old Blair Castle in Perthshire. The ancestral home of the Dukes of Atholl, the castle now plans to exhibit the remaining bottles as part of the Blair Castle visitor experience. Whisky Auctioneer, based in Perth, is hosting the online sale, which is expected to fetch a total of over £240,000. According to a plaque found with the stash, the whisky was distilled in 1833 and matured for eight years before being bottled. This makes it the oldest vintage in existence. The bottles have generated significant interest, with several hitting their £10,000 reserve price within hours of the sale opening. #investment #opportunity #whiskycollection #whiskylover #whiskybarrel #whiskycask #invest #investor #Investing #investors #assets #asset #assetmanagement #assetprotection #whisky #whiskylife #scotland #scottish #scottishbusiness https://lnkd.in/gm84JbXK

We are delighted to publish our sixth Noble & Co Whisky Intelligence Report, in partnership with decision intelligence firm Brainnwave. In the report we review the performance of the fine and rare whisky at auction market. The key highlights are: - Volumes at auction are in decline, down by 11% in Q4 2023 vs Q4 2022 - This is mostly being seen in lower-priced bottles, with volumes of bottles selling for £100-£1,000 down by 11.4% and £1,000 to £10,000 down by 9.4% - Average prices are rising but this is predominantly a mix shift due to the weakness at the lower-priced end of the market - Volume declines worsened through December and January, even accounting for seasonality. Bottles selling between £100 and £200 were down by 20% in December 2023 vs December 2022, and 21% in January 2024 vs January 2023 - Most of the major brands have seen significant brand declines. The Macallan noted a very strong value in the quarter due to the sale of The Macallan Valerio Adami bottle - Our data shows that bottles that are “unsold” at auction are not increasing significantly in number overall. This implies sellers are being more careful in putting bottles to auction in a more fragile market - Overall, it is clear that the macro-economic climate is weighing on the auction market. If 2024 is a year of economic recovery, this may feed through to the auction market. - We now have 905,025 bottle sales in our dataset and over 20 million datapoints The full report can be downloaded for free here https://lnkd.in/eBTmR3ew Our thanks to all of those that partnered and assisted on the creation of this report.
