Returning from your annual leave to the news of a mass layoff is not easy, even if you have not been impacted directly. While I am sure this decision was not taken lightly and I could not agree more with what our CEO Dax said below about all the people we hired at Lightspeed over the past few years, it will take a while for those of us who are still here to go back to business as usual. Until then I need your support! This is where you all potentially come into play as my LinkedIn network: To my HR & Recruitment connections across EMEA & NOAM (Germany, Netherlands, UK, Belgium, France, USA & Canada) please email our talent directory talenthub@lightspeedhq.com or reach out to me for more information if your company is hiring for various positions across most departments. As a recruiter, it is hard to see folks you hired and worked with being let go, and as a colleague even harder.... To my former colleagues who were impacted, if you need any support with your CV, need an intro email to someone I might be connected with who has an open position at their company or just want to chat, please reach out. ... also please remember you are so much more than your job!
Talented, passionate people come to Lightspeed Commerce because they want to solve complex challenges and build something better. I know they will apply that same energy to any job they do. That’s why I am highly recommending any of the names on our Alumni Talent Directory as great candidates for other companies out there. If you’re hiring, please email talenthub@lightspeedhq.com to access the list of talent open to work. I am also more than happy to provide references or connect you with those at Lightspeed who can.

What can you do to stand out in the hiring process that no one else does? Nolan Church, former Google and DoorDash recruiter, emphasizes the importance of following up job applications with personalized messages to the hiring manager and even the CEO on LinkedIn and email. Church suggests adding the CEO and hiring manager on LinkedIn, sending a brief message about your application, and then locating their emails for a more detailed email follow-up. He emphasizes the need to explain why you're a perfect fit for the role and express your enthusiasm for the company. According to Church, this step is often overlooked but can make applicants stand out and demonstrate commitment and research, addressing the key question: "Why are you a good fit for the role?"

Filling a open position for a company might seem simple from the outside looking in. IE find a good person, and get them started asap. From the client side, it's likely much more complicated. That person has ownership of a highly important initiative that is key to a product launch. The role might be the beginning of a new venture they can't discuss. Without the right person/s, other efforts may get blocked entirely or severely slowed down. the list goes on... At RyderGroup we partner with our clients to fully understand their strategic hiring initiatives and provide talent that meets their immediate, and long term strategic needs. Exciting News! 🚀 The candidate experience is undergoing a much-needed transformation, and we're here for it. At this point, we enjoy seamless, customer-centric digital experiences in virtually every facet of our lives—so much so that they’ve become table stakes. Order your pet supplies from Amazon, a pizza from Domino’s, a dinner over DoorDash, a custom-made couch from Room & Board, a flower delivery, and you know exactly what stage those items are at along their journey from production to delivery by simply checking a temporary “portal” that tells you. The interview process is one of a handful of remaining exchanges that fails to offer consumer-grade experiences, dissolving candidates’ confidence and excitement in the company. Where are they in the process? What are the details of the next step? Why don’t they have easy access to all the information they need for that stage of their candidate journey? The status quo of mediocre candidate engagement is being challenged. Check out how the candidate portal is revolutionizing hiring for its candidates in our latest article in the comments.

Alchemist & Certified Coach | Transforming Leaders and Careers through coaching, speaking and future thinking
One of the biggest mistakes I see in the workforce today is people sitting back and waiting for their next role or promotion to be delivered to them like an Amazon package 📦 . While this was common practice many years ago where you would often sit and wait your turn to be promoted to management, this is no longer the case. One of the most important things you can do in your career is seek out opportunities. This can include: 🎯 Setting a goal or trajectory to where you want to be. 💬 Speaking with your manager to support you toward your goal. 🧠 Seeking out personal development opportunities. Personal development can be a blend of education, courses and even working with a coach. So, what’s stopping you? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey there, I'm Matt! 👋 I help people like you set goals and define a clear path to where you want to go in your Career. You could think of me as your Yoda in your career journey. Together, we'll shift you from going through the motions to experiencing fulfilment in your professional life. Let's embark on this transformative journey together! 🚀

In fantasy-tv-movie land, November/December are times of joy and happiness. If something bad happens, it's an illness, death, accident. But, you know Q4 also is? 1. When employers lay people off. Sometimes on Thanksgiving/Christmas or close to it. It's not just retail store employees. It's manufacturing talent, it's VP's, it's GM's, it's anyone. 2. When you need to start (keep) looking at new opportunities. You may have just gotten a Q3 bonus and a promotion. That was then, this is now. Keep looking. 3. In October, "Rima" said, "I'm going to put my search on hold until after the holidays." This week, Rima's entire department was laid off. 2 weeks severance. Happy Thanksgiving! 🙄 You don't stay open to new opportunities for them. You stay ready to get a new job at all times for YOU. It's in our book that's on Amazon. #beyourbestbrand #beyourbestcareerarchitect #resumes #beyourcareerbully

Not surprised. It’s the same at Google, Microsoft, META, Spotify .. (Add your favorite company name here). What I learned over the years.. - It’s always greener on the other side - Don’t trust the stories crafted by other companies/people to sell you stuff or convince you that they are smarter than you are - Don’t seek perfection. Just aim to keep improving day by day. - Accept that some things will break while you are optimizing other ones. - Best practices are just average practices. You always need to fit them to your needs, or throw them away and invent your own things that work for your needs. - Change is the only constant. By the time you are done improving something, the world will gift you with new problems worth solving. So be comfortable with a bit of chaos and doing things differently from what the crowd trys to sell you
Friend from Amazon: "I think it is almost comical that we get cited as a paragon for certain ways of working. My department, at least, is the biggest feature factory I've ever worked in. BDUF. Lists of deliverables. Dates. Highly competitive not collaborative. Very project oriented. The writing culture can be taken way, way too far. Individuals with assigned projects. Yes, we're 'outcome focused' but sometimes that is taken way too far. Like so many things it is a tradeoff, and I'm not sure this would work elsewhere. To be clear, I enjoy working here and it is extremely challenging and rewarding. We sit on the shoulders of giants in terms of how we operate. I feel like I hit the jackpot career-wise and am proud of being here. But let's be honest...." Thought: This is the messy reality we should be discussing. This is what work can feel like—a jumble of contradictions we navigate in our personal career journey.
