Kody Klenow came onto the Great Day in Sales podcast and gave a real unique perspective into his role as VP of Local Sales at Lee Enterprises. "A great day in sales is understanding your numbers as a unique contributor, your KPIs. What do I need to do to move the ball down the field?... And then hitting them consistently, because you know that those leading indicators are going to get you to success." Kody has local boots on the grounds agents across the country, and it takes a unique skill set to keep that team together, focused, and growing when there's distance involved. But at the end of the day, it's about simply moving down the field. No home runs or 60 yrd throws required, just consistent KPI's being hit on a daily basis. If your garage is super organized and squeaky clean, you probably have a long list of unachieved goals. I once heard a wise man on a podcast say: "My garage is super messy, and it probably always will be, because I have a huge impact to make on the world through my business." Why do you think this guy didn't want to waste time cleaning his garage? Why do you think Steve Jobs and Donald Trump prefer the same clothes every day? Because they want all their time and energy to stay laser focused on achieving big goals that impact the world. My question to you today is this: What things in your life should be left messy and unorganized so you can focus on making your impact on the world instead?

The best sellers will suggest their prospects don’t buy their product. Steal these talk tracks: “Armand, instead of buying our product, why not just build this in house?” “You mentioned you’re also looking at advertising with the Sales Goon podcast. They are much cheaper than us. Perhaps that’s a better place for you to start?” “I get the sense you have a lot of work on your plate. Would it be easier to just kick this out a quarter?” —- If your prospect ACCEPTS your proposed alternative…you NEVER had the deal. This stuff always comes out in the wash. Don’t waste hours chasing deals that decide to “do this in house” at the 11th hour. More often, however: Your prospect will justify exactly WHY they are considering you over the alternative course of action you proposed. Now you know your position of competitive differentiation (in their view).
