As the East ploughs billions into everything from golf tours to football leagues, we examine how brands in the West are grappling with a global sports industry in flux https://lnkd.in/eqq_jRam
Some food for thought here! Again!
Tim Henman suggests...
"Do we need to think about speeding the courts up, speeding the balls up, so the rallies aren't quite so long? It's now about an hour a set."
Thirty30 comment...
This suggestion would reduce the quality of rallies by making them shorter.
This brand of tennis with shorter rallies was common place back in the 90's, etc. and there were concerns then that the rallies were just too short - Wimbledon consequently changed their grass courts to become much slower.
Outwith the Grand Slam Events - they must stay as the ultimate test - and playing best-of-5 sets matches, why not just reduce the number of points played during a set to create shorter faster-paced matches?
This is exactly what Thirty30 tennis achieves along with creating more 'big' pressure points!
A best-of-5 sets Thirty30 match lasts less than 2 hours.

In honour of the Olympic Games, let’s talk sportsmanship. The ability to win without gloating, respecting one’s opponent & being able to lose gracefully are all considered hallmarks of good sportsmanship.
Which qualities do you admire most when it comes to winning?
Is there an area that would you like to develop to improve your success & reputation with others?
Have you witnessed sportsmanship at the Paris games that have inspired you?

Embrace the passion of Roland-Garros crowds.
As a professional tennis player, you have to deal with things you cannot control.
Several players have complained about the atmosphere at Roland-Garros, saying – to sum it up quickly – that it’s becoming more like a football match with its loud and energetic crowd. Well, isn’t that what makes football so exciting?
Iga Swiatek expressed her frustration with the crowd's behaviour during rallies. While we ask spectators to refrain from making noise during points, not everyone is familiar with tennis ethics. People get caught up in the excitement, and in a way, that’s pretty cool. The atmosphere becomes electric.
When you have a passionate crowd, like in the Davis Cup, who doesn’t love it? Extreme emotions are what make sports captivating. People watch sports to feel those intense moments. During the match between Stan Wawrinka and Pavel Kotov, the crowd was often vocal during rallies, yet there were no complaints. This is part of being a professional tennis player – dealing with the uncontrollable.
However, I agree with David Goffin that there must be limits. Disrespectful behaviour, such as spitting on players or throwing objects, is absolutely unacceptable. There should be staff in the stadiums specifically tasked with monitoring the crowd. If someone crosses the line, they need to be warned immediately, and if the behaviour continues, they should be removed from the stadium.
But it's fantastic to see fans becoming more engaged. I hope this trend continues. Shouting and passionately supporting your player shouldn't be an issue. It’s all part of the game.
That's one of things we do at UTS Tour: the crowd is part of the experience. They can express themselves no matter what. And the players have no problem with it.

At a time when rugby union is struggling in North America, and despite not having the Eagles qualifying for the RWC23, Major League Rugby is attracting many former rugby icons, such as Matt Giteau, to name but one. Recently, Stade Toulousain, one of Europe's most prestigious clubs, joined forces with the Utah Warriors, striking a major blow on the American Rugby Union (XV) market.
However, it is Rugby League (XIII) that is about to conquer the American market. This type of rugby, often described as more spectacular and rougher, is about to set foot in the United States. The economic strategy behind this move is questionable and highly risky... But "high-risk = high-reward".
I can't wait to see if Rugby League (XIII) can make it on the American market before Rugby Union (XV) rugby does. Let's give it a try.
