Generative AI is undoubtedly transforming industries, but it's also posing challenges for local power grids and water resources. Recently, I've been contemplating just how much power these AI tools consume. Data centers supporting AI need intensive computational power, which puts stress on local grids and leads to significant water evaporation for cooling systems. 🌍⚡💧 This made me think about our reliance on these powerful tools. How can we innovate while minimizing our environmental footprint? At a previous project, we faced similar concerns and adopted renewable energy sources and more efficient cooling methods. It required upfront investment but paid off in sustainability and long-term savings. What are your thoughts? In the shadow of the AI craze. Often overlooked, AI development has been a major contributor to the increasing energy consumption of data centers. According to a study, AI-related electricity consumption could increase by 85.4 to 134.0TWh of annual electricity consumption from newly manufactured servers by 2027, which is comparable to the annual electricity consumption of countries such as the Netherlands, Argentina, and Sweden (https://lnkd.in/eGqKxJaK).
