Data centers supporting AI need intensive computational power, which puts stress on local grids and leads to significant water evaporation for cooling systems. 🌍⚡💧 This made me think about our reliance on these powerful tools. In the shadow of the AI craze. Often overlooked, AI development has been a major contributor to the increasing energy consumption of data centers. According to a study, AI-related electricity consumption could increase by 85.4 to 134.0TWh of annual electricity consumption from newly manufactured servers by 2027, which is comparable to the annual electricity consumption of countries such as the Netherlands, Argentina, and Sweden (https://lnkd.in/eGqKxJaK).
