Sorry to see so many talented journalists being let go by various media companies. I've said it before and I'll repeat it til I die: Journalists are amazing people doing underappreciated (and misunderstood) work that we won't truly miss until it's gone. If you're hiring in PR and you see recently laid off journalists open to filling these roles, pounce on them. The writing will be spectacular. The work will be done quickly because deadlines are daily for reporters. You'll have someone who instantly and intimately understands what the press wants when it comes to earned media. Hire journalists for PR jobs! #journalism #publicrelations

📢 Our team is recruiting a Media Relations and Communications Officer! Salary - 35k. 📢 The job was just recently held by Claire Penketh FRSA MBCS who I’m proud to say has moved into a senior policy engagement role in the team. So you can still benefit from her advice as well as the experience of Amanda Matheson and Daniel Aldridge MBCS 😊 You’ll ideally have some experience of writing and ‘selling in’ stories to journalists (we speak to national tech and education correspondents – as well as IT industry publications). You might be a current or recent journalist. You might be working in a PR role where you’re already a good writer creating press releases and evidence based pitches that have led to news coverage and stakeholder engagement. What will I be writing about and promoting? Anything from the diversity gap in tech, to policy changes in computing education, to technical insights on AI or quantum cryptography. We are the professional body for IT; this is a great role for someone who loves seeing stories about the transformational power of computing (and its challenges) appearing in external media. A key part of the job is translating policy insight and research reports into concise content - and that includes social media posts and briefings, as well as news stories. You’ll get to work with some of our brilliant expert members to ensure their knowledge of tech issues reaches the mainstream. The graphic below shows Dr Sam De Silva on Newsnight talking about the need to review how computer evidence is treated by the courts, in the wake of the Post Office scandal. #technology #PR #Media [If you’d like to be part of what we're doing, please see the link in the comments below ↘
