Twenty years ago today, I was offered my very first full-time job in animation at Soup2Nuts animation in Massachusetts. It wasn’t exactly a high-paying gig, and the series, Time Warp Trio, didn’t gain much traction, but it was my big break. I packed my bags and moved to Boston, a city where I didn’t know a single person. With the help of my parents, I found an apartment during Labor Day weekend – talk about a whirlwind! That time was both terrifying and exhilarating. But looking back, I see how that leap of faith was a game-changer for my career and my confidence. At "Soup", I met incredibly talented people who became lifelong friends. We shared bar crawls, karaoke, bar trivia nights, and Battlestar Galactica marathons, bonding as we commiserate over our low-paying jobs and dreaming of brighter futures. So, why am I reminiscing now? Well, I’m three months into unemployment, and I’m optimistic that my next adventure is just around the corner. I’m eager to find a new role that will not only push my career forward but also remind me that change, while daunting, can lead to amazing opportunities.
