Facebook has become too big for its own good. Its content filtering and policies are ineffective, the validation of user information is substandard, and the company has deliberately created ambiguous and impractical procedures for reporting content and profiles. Trying to speak with a human being connected to Facebook's customer service or support? It's not happening and never will. Content filtering on Facebook is virtually non-existent. Pornography, harmful images and videos, hateful speech, and other violent content are easily accessible on the platform. The occasional blocking or removal of content by their seemingly outdated algorithms is insignificant when, 9 times out of 10, such content reaches the platform. Facebook shirks responsibility for the platform it has created, with accountability falling entirely on the users. And the possibility of speaking to a human being? It's relegated to emails or contact forms, another method they use to shield themselves and deny issues. Frankly, I believe Facebook has become a detrimental force in the world of social media. It acts like a bully, never facing repercussions for its actions. It's disgraceful. The attached screenshot exemplifies the prevalence of fake and hacked accounts. Consider how other social media platforms manage to effectively control content and user validation, yet the world's largest and most powerful platform struggles in these areas. If Facebook is at the forefront of the remarkable technological advancements we see today, why can't it secure its own technology? The only conclusion I can draw is that it's not a priority for them. User safety and accurate information don't seem to be concerns for Facebook's executives. Their focus is on acquiring user data by any means, selling it to the highest bidder, and labeling it a partnership to avoid backlash. Shame on you, Facebook. Frances Haugen: Yes. You are forcing us to take positions that we don't like, that we know are bad for society. We know if we don't take those positions, we won't win in the marketplace of social media. With all the TikTok ban talk on my feed, you'd think I'd be talking about Bytedance.... (Like China doesn't have enough problems of its own, it needs to create problems in other countries.) But nah, this is all from an interview with Frances Haugen, a FB whistleblower, who shared HEAPS of internal Meta/Facebook documents with the US federal government. From 2021. Remember when we were talking about banning Facebook for fomenting hate, misinformation, social unrest, polarization, and increasing suicide in teenage girls? Speaking of "censorship". You remember how this whole whistleblower went viral on Facebook's own platform for a sustained period of time? Yea, I don't remember either. 😅 Weird how that worked out.... Anyway, it's fine to ban TikTok (although I doubt it will happen) but just use the only legitimate (IMO) reason which is that Facebook and Youtube are banned in China.

One of the illusions of AI is that the impact is in the near future, when it's embedded in the past 10 years at least. Listening to Frances Haugen share her Facebok experience reminds of the importance of regulating algorithms, putting some morality and humanity to the treatment of people as ad units....optimizing for anger spreads. If you did what Facebook does in the real world, you'd be arrested for inciting violence and damaging the lives of minors. Wake up call for sure: "If you start a fight in a post, you're going to get much more distribution than someone who does a calm response. Facebook has setup a system where you can have systems that fan ethnic violence. If your kid uses social media for more than 3 hours a day,  they're at double or triple the risk of getting depression or anxiety. The average kid in the United States uses these product for three and a half hours a day." Happy birthday, Facebook 🎂... but are congratulations truly in order 🤔? As of this week, Facebook has been around for twenty long years, and with time inevitably comes controversy.
