Obesity is a spiraling global problem with profound economic and social consequences for society. As a paradigmatic example of the biopsychosocial model of medicine, obesity can only be adequately addressed through a truly cross-sector approach. Leveraging examples from across the healthcare and life sciences ecosystem, we present our 5 steps to turning the tide on obesity. Great article from ZS highlighting the importance of addressing obesity - and the value and challenges of implementing new solutions like GLP-1s. They highlight two important changes: First, redefining the journey from weight loss to weight management and recognizing that each patient is unique so there is no one "solution" but as many solutions as there are patients and second, pursing population health-based models to make adoption of obesity treatment broadly viable. We're enabling both of these at Ilant Health with our Metabolism Matters and Rapid Returns model. Excited to see others calling out the importance of treatment matching and value-based, population-based support! https://lnkd.in/dWFRxNWK Elina Onitskansky Jessica Muse Keith Passwater Paul Bergen William (Bill) Coyle Howard Deutsch Karishma Trikha Raluca Cenusa

This is such a false economy. It’s time for policy makers to invest in prevention strategies because it’s pretty clear Australia has an obesity problem which is now being exploited by digital marketing platforms offering a quick expensive fix. Harriet Grayson for the Health Services Daily #prevention #healthequity Only 0.1% of the federal government’s health budget targeted obesity prevention over the past nine years, new Deakin University research has shown. The study, published in a special issue of the Sax Institute’s Public Health Research & Practice, showed that between 2013 and 2022, investment in obesity prevention initiatives totalled approximately $778 million across federal health budgets between 2013 and 2022. According to the National Obesity Strategy, in 2018, obesity cost the Australian community $11.8 billion and if nothing was done, may cost an estimated $87.7 billion [per year] by 2032.

Did you know that obesity rates have been increasing since the 1980s? It's clear we need to change how we talk about and treat obesity. Omada Health’s latest whitepaper emphasizes the need to reframe obesity as a complex chronic condition that requires long-term, often lifelong treatment. This is especially crucial in the age of GLP-1s.
