Thanks to Becker's Healthcare for covering our recent NEJM Catalyst paper on using #AI and #GPT4 to scale quality improvement for physician notes across a large healthcare organization. ๐ Check out the link to the NEJM paper in the comments below! Some key reflections: ๐ We are about to enter a time when the way we write physician notes is going to undergo a drastic change. ๐ Our findings suggest that AI can play a role not only in reducing documentation burden but also in measuring the impact of large scale changes to documentation processes. ๐ Peter Drucker once said, โWhat gets measured gets managed.โ The truth is that doctorsโ notes have never really been measured or managed outside of billing and coding concerns. ๐ As a #healthtech community, we are privileged to be living in an amazing age of innovation. ๐ก Generative AI has the potential to not only change the way we provision care but also change the way we measure care quality and give feedback to drive improvement. ๐ ๏ธ Letโs make sure that for this wave of change we develop and implement tools to reduce the burden of documentation while at the same time measuring improvement for care quality. ๐ See the comments for the direct link to read our full article and offer your own reflections!!! - Feldman, J., Hochman, K., Guzman, B. I love the study. As a community, we should realize the intrinsic value of note writing as part of the critical thinking process. And, by extension, harness AI to do more than just write crappy notes faster.
Jonah Feldman MD, FACP thanks , voice recorder like Limitless Pendant can be built into this process to provide feedback on patient experience and auto generation of notes , claims and prescriptions if possible from conversation . Privacy and compliance is easier to enforce along with physician preferences and patient cohort. Vishnu Ravi, MD
Jonah Feldman MD, FACP thanks for leading the way forward and providing clarity.
We certainly need to spend more time with patients; documentation has always been a burden.
Curious about how this might translate to the NHS context, especially for smaller practices. Thanks for sharing the paper
