Have they been able to show diplomacy? How have they shown sensitivity towards the issue and resolved the problem? We are looking for a 5 pqe + lawyer from the UK or Australia / international candidate. What the hiring partner wants: 1. A “highly qualified” individual with “tones of experience”. 5PQE plus. 2. This deal team regularly sees Magic Circle and other top US firms on the other side of deals. Someone coming out of one of these firms would make a good candidate. 3. Candidates with good deal experience coming from a leading energy / projects firm also would be of interest. Australia was specifically mentioned. 4. Someone who can be a “good citizen” of the firm, and get involved with internal/external networking as well as extra-curricular activities. 5. Would be open to hiring leveraged finance associates who want to move into project finance. One of the really interesting things about #stratamanagement is the paths people walk into the role and industry. I’ve worked with and met people in the #strata manager chair with backgrounds in law, real estate, property maintenance, finance, engineering, finance&banking, admin, small business ventures, accounting, military, hospitality and even local government - to name just a few. The really fascinating thing to me is that the previous experiences tend to have little correlation to the success or enjoyment one finds in doing the job. It comes down to personality and drive, more than anything. The stuff we can’t teach. Sure, different skill sets or backgrounds may make a difference in the early going. For example, an ex-legal will pick up that side of things and discussions surrounding legislation and regulations more quickly etc., but it mostly levels out in the wash. The two biggest factors of longevity & success seem, to me, to be; 1. Outcome oriented mindset and drive - the person has to CARE & be equally pragmatic. 2. Personal organisation skills. The outcome focus matters in a service-field. The organisation is required to enable me or you or anyone else to be able to deliver them. This is just my observation. I would love to hear what other people’s takes are in the comments. And one last note … it’s going to cost more than $1.20 a day to deliver great outcomes from a person and company that DOES care, and CAN deliver. Cheap is always more expensive. Meet Karolina Pilsniak who works at our Birmingham plant. What is your position? How long have you been with the business? “I am now working as a Credit Controller for the Birmingham plant. I have been working in this role for 4 weeks; previously, I worked in production for about 7 years.” Can you describe your job in 3 words? “Responsibility for finances.” What does your average day look like? “Every day is different. It is hard to describe an average day because something new happens every day. Every morning, I do the daily tasks that are part of my responsibilities. Then I check e-mails, reply, and write messages to clients. Then, depending on the day, I perform various tasks assigned to me. Since I am new, I also learn new things every day.” What do you enjoy most about working at Lander? “One of the things I like most about Lander is the atmosphere there. All my colleagues are very nice and helpful. It is also very important that I am given the opportunity to learn and develop.” What did you want to be when you were young? “The credit control position is one of the jobs I wanted to pursue. I finished school in this field in Poland. I have always liked and wanted to work in a field related to finance.” Where would you go on your dream holiday? “My biggest holiday dream is to go to Hawaii. Enjoy the beautiful, sunny weather, explore the island, and spend time on the beach.” What do you like to do to unwind? “To unwind, I really like spending time with friends, but I also like to sit alone with a good book sometimes.
