Apache XTable, formerly OneTable, is now incubated by Apache. It has already adopted Apache's community-driven development principles and is generating lots of interest from Lakehouse communities. It has so far received 700+ GitHub stars, over 100 forks and 1000+ clones, and this is rapidly increasing. In the wonderful world of software license, today I discovered the Functional Source License (FSL) created by Sentry (sentry.io). Interestingly, this license automatically converts to Apache or MIT after 2 years. It is another attempt to address the "free-rider problem", recently happened to Redis and Terraform (by HashiCorp before its acquisition). For the rest, the problem is quite fascinating (in italian also known as "problema dello scroccone"), as it appears in several areas of human living and has been formally studied and described in "game theory". For sure, not yet a definitive solution.
