I blew up on LinkedIn… Well, sort of, I guess? A while back I posted a poll to gather the thoughts & opinions of other HR professionals around employee engagement. And boy did they deliver! By the time the poll closed I had over 5,000 votes, 148,000 impressions & 140 comments. 😱 The results of the poll were really interesting. The top three factors for employee engagement were: 1. Regular feedback: Employees want to know how they're doing and where they can improve. They also want to feel like their feedback is being heard and taken seriously. 2. Flexible work hours: Employees want to have the flexibility to work when and where they want, as long as they're getting their work done. This is especially important for employees with families or other commitments outside of work. 3. Wellness programmes: Employees want to feel physically and mentally healthy. Workplace wellness programmes can help employees achieve this by providing resources for things like fitness, nutrition, and stress management. However, the poll also revealed that there are two other important factors for employee engagement that I had totally missed: - Coaching & upskilling employees: Employees want to continue to learn and grow in their careers. Coaching and upskilling programs can help employees develop new skills and knowledge, which can lead to increased job satisfaction and engagement. - Psychological trust & safety within the role: Employees want to feel safe and supported in their work environment. They want to know that they can trust their managers and colleagues, and that they will be treated fairly. I'm so grateful for the feedback I received on this poll. A huge thank you to everyone who voted, commented, & liked. It's clear that employee engagement is a complex topic with no easy answers. But by continuing to have conversations and share ideas, we can make progress in creating workplaces where employees are happy, productive, and engaged.
