Polar & Oceans Explorer | Fmr Chairman of Energy Transition & Sustainability at Citi | Founder & CEO - Neuw Ventures SA, Grand Tours Project, Adventure Yacht Co

After 5 years at Citi, and my last day being today, I’m excited to embark on my next project. It was a real honour to join Citi in 2019 to establish and co-lead a new strategy and team dedicated to Sustainability, Climate, and Nature & Biodiversity. I've valued the opportunity to be part of our effort to raise awareness of these issues, to help embed new skills into our teams, and to represent Citi at Climate & Nature COPs and other events. I wish to thank and congratulate all of my wonderful Citi colleagues who have embraced these challenges and opportunities. I’m leaving many great friends who I will miss, but I know we will remain in touch. It's been a lot of fun! I also wish to thank the many clients (companies, investors, banks, governments) across the world with whom I have engaged and worked. From the US to Brazil, EU to Nigeria, UK to India, China to the Middle East, Japan to Australia - Citi has enabled me to meet so many amazing clients in so many countries who are transitioning their businesses, building new technologies, investing in solutions, and developing the enabling environments we need for our future. Finally I want to thank the many other stakeholders, NGO’s, scientists, thought-leaders, sustainability experts, and consultants who have helped me and our Citi team to accelerate solutions. Having said all this, we all need to accelerate this acceleration! We also need to think differently, to better understand and drive #systemschange, to create truly #regenerative solutions, and to create a vision for humanity to allow us to live in harmony with our only home. So thinking a bit differently is what I’m trying to do, and my next project is arguably a bit different to banking .. .. I’ll be leading a 4-month sailing expedition across the Northwest Passage with our Bermuda Schooner yacht, the “Abel Tasman”. Together with my crew, we’ll be setting off from Norway in early June to sail across the Atlantic to Iceland and Greenland, and then navigate our way through the Northwest Passage to arrive in Alaska by September. My 9-person crew includes a film director and producer, adventurers, an expert sound recordist, and young scientists. We’ll be exploring the glaciers, ice-floes and wildlife from the surface of the ocean with the yacht and in kayaks, underwater with our diving equipment, and in the air with paragliders. This project aims to further research and document the role the Arctic plays in the global climatic system, the richness of the Arctic biodiversity, and the specific threats it faces. For this, we’re partnering with leading scientists, and among other goals, we'll conduct the first testing and analysis of microplastics in the region in partnership with The Ocean Race. So it’s out of the dark suit and into the ruff and thermals for me, and hello to the great #arctic #wilderness. Hopefully you can join us virtually as we explore the Northwest Passage and we all explore new ideas and inspirations for our future.

Hello Keith, What a great trip! Having sailed in some of these waters (8K miles) as junior science officer doing ocean health / plastics / oil waste research, if you have not been, the waters are delightful. The deep rich coloring of the ocean, filled with biomass, was so striking, along with whales. We once had a fin while swim alongside us for an hour. It would look at us with one eye, then dive, then look at us with its other eyes. Further south, when we were sailing to get out of the way of a hurricane, I remember smelling the French bread as sailed St Pierre (south of your trip). If you can make it to Newfoundland, sailing into St John's is beautiful given its natural harbor. I hope you have a blog or similar resources for us to follow along. Bring your Gumby Suit and please note, we hire oceanographers at Responsible Alpha! Have a wonderful trip, Keith! Sincerely, Gabriel

What the actual F? Call me if any of the crew drop out! This is an incredible journey. I'd love to talk biodiversity credits at some point. I am just back from Achuar territories in the Amazon where Per Espen Stoknes and ReGen Network have just launched the first bio-cultural Jaguar Credits. https://app.regen.network/project/31f91f8c-8fd1-11ee-ba15-0267c2be097b Very interesting initiative.

Wow! Big change Keith Tuffley! Congratulations of this next phase. From an outsiders perspective you really helped raise Citi's profile a bank wanting to finance a more sustainable future, driving the provision of capital to drive the transition to a low carbon economy. Best of luck with this adventurous next phase which will no doubt bring much new learning!
