FROM SMALL SCALE INVESTOR TO GLOBAL SPEAKER: MY JOURNEY WITH SKY WORLD COMMUNITY. In August 2022, I embarked on a journey with Sky World Community a solicitor for Unitsky String Technologies Inc., an organization dedicated to fostering eco-friendly technological solution as well as global collaboration to bring solutions to environmental problems. Little did I know, this decision would shape the trajectory of my career in profound ways. Fast forward to 2023, and I found myself standing on an international stage, representing not just myself, but an entire continent (Africa). Against all odds, I had clinched the title of the "2nd best speaker" among 180 countries affiliated with Sky World Community. As the only African to receive such an honor, the moment was both humbling and empowering. Reflecting on this journey, I recall the leap of faith I took when I left my job at a local NGO in Bauchi, where I earned #12,000, to pursue my passion for global collaboration, environmental development and sustainability. It wasn't an easy decision, but I knew it was the right one. And today, seeing the culmination of my efforts, I couldn't be more grateful for the risks I took and the opportunities that followed. From being an investor to now serving as a speaker, tracker, and community manager, my journey with Sky World Community has been nothing short of transformative. It's a testament to the power of dedication, perseverance, and belief in a cause greater than oneself. As I stand here, honored and inspired, I invite you to join me in this journey towards a sustainable future. I joined #Flix almost 7 years ago because I truly believed that this was not just a great business, but also a business that could do real good in the world. I feel even more strongly about this today than back then, and with our 2023 ESG report, we are putting some key facts behind our efforts in the areas of Planet, People, Travel and Governance. I would encourage anyone who wants to learn more about our business and about our sustainability strategy to take a look at the full report linked in the post below, but for me the highlights are: 🚍More than 1 million tons of CO2 avoided by our passengers traveling with Flix over other options such as cars and planes in 2023. 👥32% of destinations in our network have less than 20.000 inhabitants, as Flix connects less populated areas with the rest of our network. 🌍We have confirmed our net zero goals for 2040 for Europe and 2050 globally, ahead of the timeline set by the EU and in line with the Paris Agreement. ✅SBTi validated our near-term targets for 2032. #EarthDay #Sustainability

NEW YEAR, NEW CHAPTER! As shared back on November 1, after 15+ years at Visa (including the last few as Visa's inaugural Chief Sustainability Officer), it’s now time to start a new chapter. It’s been an honor and privilege to help build and serve Visa’s responsibility, sustainability and impact mission over these last 15 years, and I thank everyone on Team Visa for all of the partnership, collaboration and support. So… what’s the new chapter? Well, I’ve been developing a personal theory of change for how I hope to continue contributing to the global sustainability mission through a "portfolio approach," and it currently looks a bit like this: Sustainable Living – 80% of my time Serving as an advocate, champion and supporter of all things Sustainable Living. This will include working on both the supply and demand sides of the equation. - Spotlight: using my voice and social media channels (@greenlivingdoug on LI, YouTube and Insta; #SustainableLife blog at greenlivingdoug.com) to spotlight companies, products and behaviors making sustainable living more attractive, rewarding and attainable - Projects: working on specific projects and alliances focused on sustainable living behaviors – areas like plant-based food, recommerce, sustainable travel, electric vehicles, employee/sustainable living engagement and more - Advisor/Ambassador: supporting and advocating for the sustainability leadership of specific brands and initiatives enabling sustainable living - Speaking: sharing trends and opportunities for sustainable living with various audiences (conferences, corporate events) Corporate ESG/Sustainability – 20% of my time Supporting the advancement of corporate ESG and sustainability programs more broadly. - Advisor: serving as an advisor and champion for specific offerings that help corporate programs – in areas that may include ESG tech platforms, renewable energy, voluntary carbon markets, supply chain engagement, sustainable travel and more - Projects/Consulting: supporting specific projects and needs that may come along - Board Service: should the opportunity arise, serving on private or public company boards to bring the ESG perspective of managing risk and creating value through a broad set of topics Stay tuned for more news over the coming weeks/months with more specifics on the above.
