Beer/Cannabis Field Sales Rep Following the recent acquisition of Houston’s favorite Craft Beer & spirits makers 8th Wonder, Bayou City Hemp company is changing the landscape of the beverage industry by bringing cannabis and beer together under one roof for the first time in history.   Do you love booze, beers and buds? We are in search of experienced field sales reps to achieve retail and on-premise placements of the refreshed 8th Wonder branded products and drive growth of the emerging cannabis-infused beverage category through increased distribution.   As a Field Sales Representative specializing in the beer and cannabis industry, your primary responsibility will be to promote and sell beer and cannabis products to retailers and distributors within your designated territory both on premise and off premise. You will be the face of the company, building relationships, and driving sales growth.  Reports to: VP of Sales & Distribution Wage Status: Salary plus bonus, exempt   Our Core Values Proven leader Problem solver Competitive and passionate about our brands Trustworthy and reliable Confident and bold trailblazer   Responsibilities:  Sales Strategy: Develop and execute a sales strategy to achieve sales targets and drive market penetration for beer and cannabis products. Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with retailers, distributors, and other key stakeholders. Provide excellent customer service, address inquiries, and resolve any issues or concerns. Product Knowledge: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of beer and cannabis products, including their features, benefits, and potential applications. Educate customers about the products and assist with product selection based on their needs. Sales Presentations: Conduct engaging and persuasive sales presentations to retailers and distributors, showcasing the unique selling points and value proposition of the beer and cannabis products. Effectively communicate pricing, promotions, and any other relevant information. Territory Management: Manage and prioritize your assigned territory efficiently. Plan and schedule customer visits, ensuring regular coverage and follow-up. Identify new business opportunities and develop strategies to expand the customer base. Market Research: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, competitor activities, and consumer preferences. Provide feedback to the marketing and product development teams to help refine the product offerings and marketing strategies. Sales Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sales activities, customer interactions, and sales forecasts. Prepare regular sales reports and provide insights and recommendations to management. Compliance: Adhere to all legal and regulatory requirements related to the sale and distribution

Getting a job in sales in the cannabis industry was a challenge. I had over 15 years of B2B sales and account management experience, had run a $16MM division, had written sales and marketing plans for local and national CPG retailers and distributors, and also had extensive cannabis experience. But every interview I had this question was asked: "how would you make a sales call on a dispensary?" My answer was always: "the same way I would make a sales call on any other business." This was not an acceptable answer and I typically got the response that I was more than qualified but they were concerned that I hadn't actually sold product to a dispensary before, and apparently there was a "secret process" that was unlike any other industry. Well, I was finally given an opportunity (shoutout Jonathan Davis, MBA) in 2020 to do sales for a farm in Hillsboro, OR. I found success immediately. I grew the account base as well as increased velocity and improved margins within existing accounts. I created incentive plans to capture shelf space and generate trial on new products. I crushed it. Other reps throughout the industry came to me and asked me for advice on how to have the same success. My advice? Start using traditional sales techniques and stop doing the gimmicky nonsense that is so prevalent in the cannabis industry. As Sales Director at Otis Gardens, Inc. I have been able to design and develop a sales and marketing strategy from the ground up and hire and train a sales team to execute. I hired cannabis OG's who were hungry to learn traditional business techniques and processes. I used traditional CPG sales and marketing strategies to create a sales process that can be executed with efficacy, and removes many of the challenges that exist across much of the industry in regard to buyer/sales relationships. It is based around supporting our retailers processes and creating efficiencies down the line to generate trial and increase product velocity. We have had 4 record breaking months in the last year (we've been in business since 2014). Our menu has sold out for the last 6 weeks, and pre-sold out for 4 of those. We do so without the need for circulars and with an extremely low rejection rate (under 1%). I speak with a multitude of other sales reps and sales directors who cannot fathom how we are able to accomplish these things. For those who wish to listen, I am happy to share. Many are simply stuck in their ways, however. While I fully appreciate wanting to protect the culture, this can be done without rejecting change and evolution. It is true that many people in the business world know nothing about cannabis and they are killing the industry. What is also true is that many people in cannabis know nothing about business and they, too, are killing the industry. We must open up to the things that we DON'T know and begin to learn from one another. Remember, one of the most dangerous phrases in business is "we've always done it this way."

In B2B sales it may take a rep 5-12 activities before closing the sale... an activity can be phone calls, meetings, presentations, and asking for the order. In the case of selling frozen cheese sticks to national restaurant chains, the sales process might involve multiple meetings with key decision-makers, product demonstrations or tastings, negotiations on pricing and terms, logistical considerations... as well as follow-up communications to address any concerns or questions. The second most important piece of advice I would give to upcoming AE's / Sales reps Make a list of all your vices. This could look like: - Drinking - Social drugs - e-commerce - p*rn - vaping - scrolling The list goes on. You can completely eliminate this list because the upside is tremendously higher than the high's and low's you'll experience as you climb the success ladder. Then wait for your skills to come up. Your life will be less rocky and more predictable. Predictability is an awesome thing. And then wait for an opportunity to present itself. This is the Universe/God rewarding you for giving things up.
