Stateless vs. State servers 3.) Heartbeat checks for checking if a user is online 4.) In a distributed system, messages will have primary IDs and can be used to display new messages and the message history Facebook spends millions of dollars hiring engineers to carefully construct their chat systems, and this is only a limited 100 word document. But all of these concepts can help you learn more about how systems along with the types of decisions that go into designing them at scale.
