Top stories today ⚠️ National Grid chastised over delays to stopgap connections process https://buff.ly/3T0SFR9 National Grid has been chastised by Ofgem over its implementation of a temporary two-step process for offering connections to the power grid. The regulator said the process is now expected to bring little or no improvement in connection dates for the majority of customers. It has nevertheless granted a joint request by National Grid ESO and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) to extend the deadline for providing revised offers to customers. 🐙 Block tariffs could hinder uptake of time-of-use deals, Octopus warns https://buff.ly/49VPvoG Reforming tariffs so that the highest users pay the greatest unit charges would hinder the uptake of time-of-use deals, Octopus Energy has warned. The supplier has urged MPs to back away from their previous support for replacing standing charges with so-called block tariffs. This type of deal, which has been rolled out in Dubai, creates a sliding scale for electricity prices with those in the top usage block paying the most per unit and then progressively reducing. 📈 Ofgem’s growth duty is a symptom of the mess we’re in https://buff.ly/4bYHjpO Ofgem’s number of statutory responsibilities has hit 15 with the extension of the growth duty. Writing for Utility Week, Hill & Knowlton London managing director of public affairs Tara Singh posits that the regulator's ever-increasing list of duties is a symptom, not a cure, to the mess we are in.

The New York Times delved into the thorny issues related to the politics of the current IRA fueled capacity boom in US solar manufacturing; relative to the current glut of imports being sold below cost. Apparently others are sensing market turbulence. CBP released data from last week shows that someone just imported roughly 500 MW of cells into the US; likely to feed a new ModCo factory that could be at risk if AD/CVD tariffs are collected. Buckle up. It's fixin to get bumpy. https://lnkd.in/gv9bwdWn

A new report from Clean Energy Associates (CEA) outlines how new tariffs from the latest antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) investigation on solar cells and panels could increase costs to a level that would significantly restrict solar supply and installations in the United States.
Analysis says new AD/CVD could raise panel prices in US by 15¢/W on top of everything else

Wonder if there's already Time of Use (ToU) tariffs in place to help "soak up" excess solar-generated electricity. EV users would definitely welcome cheaper tariffs to charge their cars during peak production hours (1200-1700h?). Some places in Australia even give free electricity between 1000-1500! https://lnkd.in/gMmMZtUp

Bitter Pill or Sweet Medicine? New anti-dumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD) could potentially increase the prices of solar panels in the US by 15 cents per watt, potentially shocking the industry. However, higher tariffs on solar panels could boost U.S. jobs and innovation in panel manufacturing, reducing pollution and fossil fuel use. On the bright side, I remain pretty much optimistic that this decision will propel KB Racking forward, given our competitive pricing advantage. #SolarEnergyLeadership #RenewableEnergySolutions #ADCVDDuties #FlatRoofSolar #CommercialSolarProjects #SolarRacking

Working with businesses and their internal stakeholders to help drive industry growth and create a cleaner world.
The fight for solar and storage deployment in the U.S. is both a complicated and necessary one. Effective leadership in our sector is critical. Thanks Abby Hopper and George Hershman for leading the charge. #solarnews #energystorage #renewableenergy
It's a big week for American solar and storage manufacturing. And I can’t even share all the news yet! Today, I spent my morning testifying (virtually) to the U.S. International Trade Commission alongside George Hershman on the topic of tariffs. SEIA continues to fight these undue trade barriers and support the domestic solar manufacturers who have announced over *60* new domestic manufacturing facilities in the last year. Tomorrow, I am joining SEIA’s third annual Solar+ Manufacturing Summit in Chicago and hosting a fireside chat that will bring together leaders to discuss pathways and policies for building a strong domestic solar supply chain. Also this week, SEIA has another announcement on domestic manufacturing... But, to see that, you’ll have to check back in on the Solar Energy Industries Association's social media accounts👀 I can’t wait to share more but, for now, I’m excited to continue building and advocating for America’s robust, homegrown solar and storage industry.

🚛 Can the United States have a fully domestic energy storage supply chain? Thanks to huge government subsidies & protectionist tariffs, we might see investments in US energy storage manufacturing come to fruition in 2026. We expect projects that can fully capitalize on 1) the domestic content bonus adder, and 2) the advanced manufacturing production credit will allow US systems to be cost-competitive with Chinese systems in 2026. Read my latest insight on the impact of recent policy changes on the US storage supply chain 👉 https://lnkd.in/gya3ybDj

Kurtis Anderson has once again allowed me to lend my name and light editing to a series of alerts addressing U.S. import duties on various types of solar modules. As U.S. manufacturing capacity continues to expand, spurred by the Inflation Reduction Act and other tax-based manufacturing incentives, the Biden administration appears to be betting that the United States can produce enough solar panels to meet growing domestic solar demand. This alert addresses the expectation that tariffs are forthcoming on two-sided panels. #inflationreductionact #solarenergy #internationaltrade #renewableenergy Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP

Seems that just about everyone recognizes we need more transmission to power the #cleanenergytransition , which is why this debate is intensifying. Will more competition put downward pressure on transmission tariffs? Can incumbent utilities install lines more quickly? The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has a tough decision on their hands.
