Veteran Housing Corp applauds all past efforts of the Ocala Metro Chamber & Economic Partnership to attract new businesses but number one priority for City of Ocala should be to build more affordable housing and I would challenge each and every local, state, and federal housing agency or affordable housing developer to do better in 2024 and beyond. Demand permanent affordability in all projects receiving government funding, subsidies, tax credits, or incentives! Veteran Housing Corp would also ask three questions about the housing projects you support or are involved with: 1. How much funding, federal tax credits, or government benefits or incentives from all government sources did the projects receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants will not be displaced after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority and affordable or workforce housing stakeholder should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 City of Ocala and Marion County FL should also look to the Helsinki FINLAND model of housing and homelessness https://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU
We're thrilled to share that Ocala has been ranked #2 in the latest edition of the U-Haul Top Cities for Growth! This is a testament to the vibrant growth and dynamic changes happening in our city. In 2023, Florida continued to lead the way in growth cities across the U.S., with seven markets in the top 25. Ocala, which was the #1 growth city in 2022, remains a top destination, showcasing our city's enduring appeal and the ongoing influx of new residents and businesses. The U-Haul Growth Index, based on over 2.5 million one-way transactions, reflects the movement of people and the vibrancy of local economies. Ocala's high ranking is not just a number; it's a sign of our thriving community, the opportunities for business and employment, and the quality of life that attracts people from all over. As we celebrate this achievement, let's continue to foster the welcoming, innovative, and dynamic spirit that makes Ocala a top choice for people looking to relocate. In 2022, visitor spending in the Quad Cities surpassed pre-pandemic levels. Tourism's total value in 2022 reached $1.30B and supported more than 9,000 jobs in the QC. Both the immediate Quad Cities and our neighboring communities are feeling the significant economic benefits that visitor spending is generating. "Tourism is not only delivering for our public sector through much-needed tax revenues such as hotel/motel tax collections and sales tax but also has a direct impact on multiple revenue streams, including food and beverage, gaming, gas, and support for small businesses," said Dave Herrell, President and CEO of Visit Quad Cities Let's sustain the momentum and continue this positive growth! Let's Talk Traffic! As the Town continues efforts to try to reduce the impacts from cut through traffic, we have compiled responses to frequently asked questions. This series highlights those questions and responses. For the full Q&A document, please visit https://lnkd.in/gfEGcma7. Q. Why can the Town close North Santa Cruz Avenue for events like the Promenades, but not close it for weekend beach traffic? A. Closing North Santa Cruz Avenue even for a couple of hours for a special event is costly to the event organizers and impacts the surrounding neighborhoods. Under certain conditions, the Town has approved special events to close North Santa Cruz Avenue or other downtown streets. The intent of the events are to welcome people to enjoy the offerings of downtown. A few years ago, the Town tried a one-way pilot on North Santa Cruz and learned that the mapping applications pushed the traffic onto side roads and then back to downtown since all drivers still need to access the same on-ramps. The pilot exacerbated the issue and created a bigger bottleneck at intersections where the roads were closed. This also reduced access to downtown parking for customers seeking to attend an event or visit downtown merchants. If you would like to share your input or ideas, you can email the Town at beachtraffic@losgatosca.gov.
