How can we improve patient experience in primary care in the midst of immense constraints? Recent conversations highlight the extreme need to transform our primary care model, which is a critical pathway to enable better experiences and outcomes for primary care patients, families, and providers. For example see: 💡 Zeev Neuwirth, MD https://lnkd.in/eBiZ6Ewm and a featured editorial posted by 💡💡Barbra Rabson https://lnkd.in/ehD-iKCE While the immense constraints in primary care delivery models are far from "simple", the featured article below offers "14 Simple Tips" on Patient Experience (published by The Journal of The American Academy of Family Physicians ). Article Highlights: 👉 A positive patient experience is the result of multiple factors and interactions throughout the patient journey. 👉Physicians and their teams can improve the patient experience through practical steps, such as expanding visit options, using pre-visit planning to keep visits organized, and involving patients in their care decisions. 👉To improve visits, try simple strategies such as sitting down, avoiding medical jargon, providing visit summaries, and using the “teachback” technique. Laura Cooley, PhD - the crisis in primary care and healthcare is mounting and worsening. The data clearly points out that we're heading in the wrong direction - in #patientexperience, #healthequity, #costs, #access, #quality & #safety, #burnout... On the flip side, we are at a moment in time when the federal government is listening & acting. The policy leaders are looking to the data, to the experts, and to the exemplars. Just this week the "Pay PCPs Act of 2024" was put out for public RFI, and The Senate Cmte on Finance put out a report on "Bolstering Chronic Care through Physician Payment..." So - what you/we are doing is making a difference. We need to continue to form these communities and to identify & share the things we can do to improve #patientexperience.

Thank you for sharing. I believe the language we use is foundational to the work we are focused on. Instead of “physicians and their teams” what about person or patient-led teams supported by health professionals can improve the patient experience. I know this is not the optimal wording, but I know when I ask patients if they believe they can lead their health teams, they are confused as they have not heard about this role. As much as we talk about patient-centered care, it seems like most patients do not know what this means and how they can be engaged.
