Is there someone at the company who has known the operations for years with the ambition and skills to step up in that role? This situation is often encountered in the first year or two following an acquisition, as the business may not have undergone significant changes. If an external hire is required, here are key factors to consider: Industry Experience - Candidates with experience in your industry bring vendor relationships, an understanding of cost structures, a network for hiring, and can contribute systems and ideas from day one. - Many search businesses are highly specialized, making it challenging to find an industry leader due to a limited candidate pool. Hiring in industry: - Look for candidates with a proven track record in companies of similar size. - You want to see excellent references Note: Utilize backdoor references if you have connections at the companies they've previously worked for.
