We were at #CANNRA in Minneapolis this week! Cannabis Regulators Association (CANNRA) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(4) association of government agencies engaged in cannabis and cannabinoid regulation. CANNRA's mission? To convene, educate, and support governmental jurisdictions responsible for implementing cannabis and cannabinoid policies and regulations. They achieve this by bringing together diverse stakeholders from the cannabis, cannabinoid, and hemp industries to discuss key regulatory and policy issues with CANNRA members. Leafwell's Research Director Mitchell L. Doucette, PhD, MS, was on a panel at this morning's breakout session, "How do Policies Affect Patients? Scientific and Policy Insights on Patient Outcomes and Access to Medical Cannabis and Cannabinoids." Joining him on the panel were notable experts: ➡ Steph Sherer, Executive Director of Americans For Safe Access ➡ Jordan Tishler MD, President of the Association of Cannabinoid Specialists ➡ Professor Ryan Vandrey, PhD, from The Johns Hopkins University Their insightful discussion shed light on the critical impact of policies on patient outcomes and access to medical cannabis. Looking forward to more conversations like these! #CannabisPolicy #PatientOutcomes #CannabisConference

Medical Cannabis Awareness Week (MCAW) returns, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of a groundbreaking UK legalization of medical cannabis on November 1, 2018. From 1-7 November, we're coming together to raise awareness and celebrate the power of medical cannabis in improving lives. MCAW, launched in 2020 by the patient advocacy group PLEA (Patient-Led Engagement for Access), will once again give patients, advocates, and prescribers from across the country the opportunity to share their experiences, reflect on the progress of the last few years, and plan for the future of medical cannabis in the UK. Are you aware 2 in 3 Canadians obtain their medical cannabis from a recreational store? In 2022, in collaboration with researchers and patient advocates, our sister clinic Santé Cannabis , led a #survey completed by over 5,700 people across Canada. Findings showed that after legalization of recreational cannabis in 2018, over half of respondents reported that where they obtained medical cannabis had changed. 80 % of them reported starting to obtain medical cannabis from a recreational store and 18% from unregulated or illegal sources, raising significant health and safety concerns. It was an honor to present at the Cannabis Science Conference in Rhode Island! Not only was the programming on medical cannabis phenomenal, I was able to share insights on over 100K medical cannabis patients to a whole new generation of researchers! Some key takeaways: 1. While more people are considering the use of cannabis as medicine, recreational markets may not be meeting their needs with their focus on high THC flower and concentrates. Patients want a variety of cannabinoid profiles and less intoxicating products they can use during the day, as well as non-smoked product forms. 2. Mainstream medical schools and primary care physicians are still behind on the topic of cannabinoid-based medicines which hampers the continuum of care for many patients. 3. The Schedule I status of cannabis is still impacting the ability of researchers to conduct human studies with large sample sizes. If you are looking to conduct research with medical cannabis patients, please reach out! #data #medicalcannabis #research

Last week, our Co-founder, Managing Director, and CEO, Benedikt Sons, took the stage at the InternationalCBC to delve into a pivotal discussion on the cultivation of medical cannabis in Germany. 🎙️ In light of the German government's groundbreaking Cannabis Act and the consequential changes in regulations surrounding medicinal cannabis cultivation, the panel shared invaluable insights into the potential ramifications for both national and international markets. 🇩🇪🌍 "The flowers segment continues to play a significant role, with notable growth and uplift since the new law's implementation." 📈 These observations underscore the evolving landscape and the opportunities it presents for stakeholders across the board. Moreover, in addressing the importance of competition in cultivation, "We see established international (medical) cannabis supply chains - some partners differentiate by quality and become quality leaders, others by price. We are generally in favor of competition in cultivation as it fosters the development of superior products for patients." Thank you to all the speakers for this enriching discussion!
