Earlier this year, i introduced a bill, AB 1532, the "Office to Housing Conversion Act," to streamline office to housing conversions, it would set strict timelines, limit bureaucratic red tape, and help convert millions of square feet of underutilized vacant office space to housing. This is entirely doable and necessary and we are already seeing it start--helping to bring more people, life and retail to our downtowns and build much needed housing that can bring down rent. Recent estimates show that of the 30 million square feet of empty office space in San Francisco, 7 million square feet could be converted into housing for some 15,000 people. https://lnkd.in/gUUw7Z-5
We need this to happen so people can be in housing

7moMatt - this story says AB 1532 was passed and went into effect Jan. 1. But the Calif. legislature site says it was just introduced. Can you tell us if it was passed and is now law? https://www.kqed.org/news/11970993/these-new-california-housing-laws-are-going-into-effect-in-2024
