An absolute privilege to talk to Katrine Sundsbø from DOAJ about the Student Success journal. The editorial team are especially proud of being indexed and carry the seal for best practice #OpenAccess It really does take a village - and lucky to be part of a very hardworking and committed editorial team. A huge thanks to our wonderful Advisory Board, our brand new and sparkly Editorial Board, and especially the authors and reviewers. The Journal doesn’t exist without the STARS Conference – and we are especially grateful for the ongoing support of QUT (Queensland University of Technology) and the QUT Library At the core of all our work on the Journal is improving the student experience in tertiary education – and making research open and accessible to all. A journal for the sector, by the sector. About the Journal The Student Success Journal is an international, open-access, peer-reviewed, scholarly publication exploring the experiences of students in tertiary education. The Journal provides the opportunity to disseminate current research and scholarly practice about students’ tertiary learning experiences. Professional and academic educators who are advancing research and practice about the student experience, learning success and retention are encouraged to submit research and scholarly practice articles for consideration. Student Success publishes three issues per year with one issue linked to the International STARS Conference. Student Success does not have article processing charges (APCs). The Journal is indexed broadly and included in Scopus, Web of Science and DOAJ. It is only one of nine journals published in Australasia with the DOAJ Seal for Best Practice in Open Access publishing. In 2023 it achieved a Q1 Scimago ranking (Scopus) in the category of ‘Education’ and is ranked 4th in Australia in this category – internationally it is in the top 50 open access education journals. #HigherEducation #StudentEquity #StudentEngagement #universities #EnablingEducation #WideningParticipation #unistars #StudentSuccess Karen Seary Dr Kylie Austin Karen Nelson PhD PFHEA Rachael Field Jason T. The last journal story of the year comes from Student Success, an Australian #OpenAccess journal with a focus on the student experience🏫 Managing Editor, Tracy Creagh, told us about how the journal started, the kind of articles they publish and her views on open access🤩 A must read for December: https://lnkd.in/dJ6K2jaf #ScholarlyCommunications #Academia #Publishing #OAjournals #DiamondOA

As I dive into another busy week of academic editing, I’m reminded of the profound words from ‘The Art of Academic Editing’ by Kara M. Jordan and Leslie Castro-Woodhouse: “The mapping phase often entails doing a repeat read or two of the manuscript, punctuated with breaks of anywhere from a few days to a week. Stepping away from the text to give it enough time to sink in allows the editor to form a more nuanced, qualitative impression of the text and formulate ideas about how to address its weak points.” This thoughtful approach enhances the quality of the work and allows for a deeper connection with the material. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of patience and reflection in the editing process. Wishing you all a productive and reflective week ahead! #AcademicEditing #EditingTips #PatienceAndReflection #MondayMotivation
