Great to see these three collectively advancing the role of science-based practices focused on the role of soils in more sustainable systems.
What a privilege! Had the honor today in sharing the podium with two outstanding leaders in agricultural sustainability. Wayne Honeycutt, Ph.D. (Soil Health Institute) and Leif Fixen (The Nature Conservancy) helped with our session at the 2023 Sustainable Ag Summit. We talked about "A Greener Future: Cultivating Soil Health for Sustainability, Profitability, and Climate Resilience". Yara North America is fortunate to be linked with and learn from these great organizations in moving towards a nature-positive future. We're all in this effort together!

I went for my first free dive of the season yesterday and have been thinking a lot about my own relationship to the ocean in the context of my work. Check out my first blog post for Living Air Communications on finding nuance in marine conservation: "While I am certainly not advocating for veganism as the solution to the loss of marine biodiversity, I am also not saying everyone should go out into the Pacific with a speargun and see what happens. There is a different, messier, but more realistic space where we can collectively shape the questions we want to see answered regarding the resources we share. Cultivating this space, through clear and thoughtful communications, is what I would like to see us achieve with Living Air. This is how we move from all-or-nothing solutions to a deeper understanding of the connections between social and ecological systems rooted in collective action."

Founding CEO of Green Heffa Farms, A Certified B Corp | Fundraiser turned Herb Farmer and Tea Blender | Visionary Environmentalist | Diversity Advocate
It is my pleasure to share that I will be the keynote speaker for the upcoming 79th Soil and Water Conservation Society's International Annual Conference. As a Black woman farmer, landowner, environmentalist, and the founding CEO of Green Heffa Farms, I consider this to be an incredible honor that I’m eager to embrace. The theme of the conference is “Rising Together, Collaborative Conservation for All,” and it couldn’t resonate more with what we stand for at Green Heffa Farms. From day one, my mission has been to cultivate more than just medicinal plants and herbs for our wellness brand – it’s about fostering sustainability, building community, and leading with innovation and heart. I’ll be diving into my journey as an entrepreneurial and environmental leader, sharing insights and stories from the heart of Green Heffa Farms. We’ll talk about the unique challenges and triumphs of building my farm, the importance of sustainable farming practices, the necessity of leveling the planting field in conservation leadership, and how we can all rise together through collaboration and conservation. This keynote isn’t just about me – it’s about all of us who believe in the power of environmental stewardship. It’s about recognizing that we all have a role to play in creating a sustainable future and that our collective efforts can drive real change. To my fellow farmers, entrepreneurs, environmentalists, and dreamers – let’s continue to break down barriers, uplift each other, and create a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural landscape. Our world needs it. Today we celebrate wild animals and plants for World Wildlife Day. People everywhere rely on wildlife and biodiversity-based resources to meet our needs - from food, to fuel, medicines, housing, and clothing. For us to enjoy the benefits and the beauty that nature brings us and our planet. We hold a duty of care for the future of the children, young people and families we work with and our determination to play our part in contributing to a sustainable and inclusive future At MacKillop, we have outlined our commitment to the future in our Sustainability Strategy, which aligns with external strategies, UN Sustainability Goals, and the principles outlined in Laudato Si, an encyclical of Pope Francis which focuses on care for the natural environment and all people. The global seafood sector is vital to food security, nutrition and income for people around the world. More than 3 billion people relying on seafood for their livelihoods. For over a decade, Mars and the World Wildlife Fund have worked together to drive positive impact, improving environmental and social practices in the fishing industry whilst promoting biodiversity and protecting endangered species. This week, our Petcare Chief Sustainability Officer, Marika McCauley Sine, sat down with WWF on their ‘Breaking Waves’ podcast to discuss our role as a major private sector actor in the ocean conservation space, as well as some of the challenges organizations face and how businesses can engage with consumers to become a part of their sustainability journey. During the episode, Marika highlighted the importance of cross sector collaboration for organizations looking to tackle systemic challenges in sustainability that stretch across sectors. Initiatives, such as the Fisheries Improvement Fund (FIF) launched by Mars in partnership with WWF and Finance Earth to catalyze and scale a $100 million investment in fisheries improvement by 2040 are essential in bringing together stakeholders across the supply chain to address environmental and social challenges facing the fishing industry.
