A global review of event-focused carbon platforms has just been published by Meegan Jones. It’s a great report that highlights the very best carbon-calculating platforms in the events industry side-by-side. I’ve been asked why Track from event:decision was not included in the review section so I’d like to explain. Track is a service, not a platform, so unlike carbon-calculating platforms there are some BIG differences… NO calculations and data input NO subscription charges NO event manager time NO training required NO producer time Track is a simple, effective service, now being used by 200+ event brands across the world. Read the full calculator review here: https://lnkd.in/eGPVViyM We’re the global events industry’s number 1 sustainability partner. 💡 Director's Insight: Is it Too Little Too Late? In a thought-provoking piece, our Director Alex Sargent challenges the current sustainability efforts of global trade show venues, shedding light on RX's recent strides towards net zero emissions at ISC West 2024. Let's take a moment to reflect on the values we hold dear: engaging, eco-conscious, and enthusiastic. What do you think? Leave your thoughts below. #SustainabilityJourney #InnovateForGood #ActNow
Is it too little too late for global trade show venues to secure net zero emissions? Well, let's take a closer look at RX's recent efforts at ISC West 2024. Sure, it's great that they have finally decided to jump on the sustainability bandwagon and pledge to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040. But, let's be real here - is 2040 really soon enough? With the alarming rate of climate change and environmental degradation happening right now, shouldn't we be aiming for net zero emissions, like, yesterday? And let's talk about this sustainability guide for exhibitors. While it's commendable that they are encouraging exhibitors to be more eco-friendly, shouldn't this have been a standard practice already? Why are we only now seeing waste stream receptacles and recyclable cutlery at concession outlets? Shouldn't these basic sustainable practices have been in place years ago? Added to this the hand sorting operations and re-purposing supplies from exhibitor booths. Are we really supposed to pat ourselves on the back for doing what should have been common sense in the first place? So, to answer the question - yes, it may be too little too late for global trade show venues to secure net zero emissions. We need to see real, tangible action and commitment to sustainability now, not in 20 years. It's time to stop talking the talk and start walking the walk when it comes to protecting our planet. Let's step up our game, trade show venues, because the clock is ticking.

The benefits of integrating sustainability into event planning and execution go beyond the environmental impact but it’s an important place to start a conversation about this growing trend. According to research by Shift Carbon, the global Events Industry is currently responsible for a staggering 10 percent of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. o Venue energy use represents 4 percent of the total footprint. o Waste accounts for 10-30 percent of event carbon impact. o Food waste accounts for nearly 30 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions. o Travel contributes 70-90 percent of an event's total carbon emissions. Meanwhile, the sustainability consultancy Edge Impact reported that the average American wedding emits 57,152 kilograms of CO2 (State of Matter article) which would require planting 2,722 trees to offset! Please join us on June 26 to learn about how venues, brands, and consumers are becoming more environmentally sensitive and creating a more positive experience for all.

A fascinating presentation on sustainability at the World Summit in Spain by the IFES Sustainability Committee was made on June 19th! "One standout slide, #44 - Event Waste by Region, revealed an unexpected leader: the US. This wasn't intentional but due to the innovative use of framing systems and fabric to offset drayage costs." Dasher Lowe EDPA For years, rental hardware solutions have been a common practice in the US exhibit industry, proving economically sensible. Recently, this approach has also become a key player in promoting sustainability efforts. Check out the latest sustainability standards for the exhibit industry released by the EDPA, ESCA, and the EIC. As the leading international events organiser in the TV & Entertainment arena, MIP Markets has a key role to play in driving change across the industry. That's why we launched the MIP Markets Sustainability Programme, guided by the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We have set our goals and are now working hard to turn them into a reality, focussing on two key areas: Responsible Consumption & Production (SDG #12) and Climate Action (SDG #13). Our actions include: - Partnering with Cannes-based Green Bee Event Upcycling to upcycle all event waste - Offering an upcylcing service to our exhibitors - Our parent company RX Global signing the Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge to reach net zero emissions by 2040 - Hosting the Sustainable Development Goal Awards, in partnership with the United Nations - Employing reusable furniture and materials for our exhibition spaces - Switching to a plastic-free badge for our events #WorldEnvironmentDay #Sustainability #GreenEvents #GenerationRestoration
