Hot off the press - The Proceedings from the Seventh International Conference on Fires in Vehicles have just been published. Given recent events, it appears to be very worthwhile reading. Some relevant papers: The proceedings include a review article by Christoph Meraner on "Car Park Fires: A Review of Fire Incidents, Progress in Research and Future Challenges" Victoria Hutchison writes about "Hazards of EVs in the built environment and firefighting tactics" Ellen Synnøve Skilbred is the lead author in a paper from RISE Fire Research entitled "Fire safety in semi-automatic parking facilities" Bertrand GIRARDIN et al. from Efectis wrote about "Fire safety engineering case study of an electric vehicle car park fire".

As more jurisdictions and communities embrace the Safe System Approach as a guiding philosophy for road safety strategies, it's incredibly important that we orient practitioners who work on the frontlines of the impaired driving system towards the implications of Safe System and how this approach aligns with day to day tasks and operations.
TIRF's Craig Lyon, Director, Road Safety Engineering is at CCMTA Fall meetings in Ottawa & presenting to the Road Safety and Research Policies Committee on, Using Data to Support a Safe Systems Approach to Impaired Driving. https://lnkd.in/gsV_VZYh #SafeSystems #publicsafety #RoadSafety #research

Another insightful and timely edition of the Australasian College of Road Safety’s Journal of Road Safety that deserves to be widely read and considered. Congratulations to all the authors. https://lnkd.in/gwrZGent Can I especially urge you to read: - Ann Williamson’s editorial first. then - Green, M., Muir, C., Oxley, J., & Sobhani, A. (2024). Safe System in Practice: A Study of Practitioner Awareness, Support and Implementation. Journal of Road Safety, 35(2), 36-48. - Mooren, L., & Shuey, R. (2024). Systems Thinking in Road Safety Management. Journal of Road Safety, 35(2), 63-73. and the rest of the excellent papers. And don’t forget the ACRS Policy Position Paper, endorsed at the AGM yesterday: https://lnkd.in/gA9isst7 This is not just an Australian topic. Improvements to road safety have plateaued in most developing countries. I know several different perspectives and others who are thinking intelligently and doing good work on this issue. But something, maybe many things, have to change. What else would you suggest? What other work do you think is useful? #roadsafety #trafficsafety
