During interviews, I prefer to turn the tables. I let candidates interview me instead. They get to be in the driver’s seat and I get to share what’s in it for them if they join Skechers. This supports a space for less pressure cooker answers. Sharing about our company culture and my own #SKX career journey also allows for genuine conversation, where candidates are happy and aren’t nervous to highlight their personal achievements, goals and ask deeper questions. Questions formed out of curiosity from fun dialogue and funny interview questions allow us to highlight the best of us, not cookie cutter experiences they think we’re looking for. Keyword fun. You can make work fun, life fun, your interviews fun. Your new job fun. Your end of week Friyay fun. I try to add a different lens and bring EQ into what I do, this is one way I engage talent. (And yes, I do weave in the normal questions, just not in a dry, rushed 15 min convo that makes you feel inhuman). Sales jobs are getting pummeled right now. Interviews are harder to secure than ever. And I think it’s awesome. Why? Because when the market is flooded with candidates, they’re all doing the same thing: Scrolling job postings Submitting job applications Waiting for recruiters to reach out That’s like arriving to McDonalds, seeing the line of 20+ cars, and pulling into the last spot. “Following the process” The opportunity? It’s never been easier to be a top 1% job candidate. If a typical job posting resulted in 25 submitted applications, now it’s getting 100. As the top candidate, Before you were the top 4%. (1/25) Now, you are the top 1%. (1/100) The lesson? Instead of grabbing the last spot in the McDonald’s car line, park, get out, and walk in and order right away. Have a great Saturday

Costco's CFO reveals what you can learn when you arrive 30 minutes early to a job interview: "Get there a half hour early and see how employees greet their guests," Richard Galanti told the publication. "If you get a chance to visit the lunchroom, you also get a sense of the environment at a company." As for Costco, Galanti told the outlet, "We don't manage by intimidation." The warehouse club not only boasts the highest customer satisfaction scores each year, but Galanti also pointed out that the company keeps a relatively low turnover percentage in its workforce — especially when compared with industry averages. Most retailers can expect to replace more than half of their staff in the course of a year. "Our annual turnover rate is 13% to 14%," Galanti said. Retail feels like the underbelly of society. People forget you're a person and treat you however they want. They don't see the person. They just see the uniform. When I used to work in retail/service, I can't tell you how many times people called me names or made big deals out of *literally* trivial things. Working retail/service is HARD. Hiring Managers know this, because we've all been there at one point or another. ALWAYS put those jobs on your resume if you're trying to break out of the entry level.

Let's talk about Easter hires, and yes I know that we've barely gotten into the Christmas mood 🐣 If you want a senior salesperson to join your team before Easter, it would be a good idea to start now. This probably sounds wild because most companies are only just planning for the New Year, but stay with me 🤣. There are usually 5 steps in the hiring process... And there's 5 weeks until Christmas. When hiring senior salespeople you need to: 1. Decide on what you need 2. Decide on your main selling points 3. Engage with candidates 4. Conduct interviews 5. Decide on who to offer I'm the best person to tell you that you can get through these quickly. At enable recruitment | B Corp™ we see interview processes fly by... if they're for junior positions. But a 3-month notice period isn't rare for senior salespeople. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to assess and sit in on interviews for various retail roles. I've always taken pride in my ability to determine who would be a good fit for the job. One lesson I've learned is to not discount an applicant's previous role or experience. Regardless of whether they come from a fast food chain or if this is their first real job, we should allow them to speak to their experiences and what they've handled. It's important to keep an open mind and give all applicants a fair chance. You may be pleasantly surprised by the amount of knowledge they have to offer. Let's focus on what they can bring to the table and not make assumptions based on their current or previous position. #jobinterview #retailjobs #hiringtips
