Hey friends, As a company that is passionate about leveraging sports for good, We wanted to share an exciting idea. Athlete influencers have immense power to drive positive change today. Their voices carry weight, especially with impressionable young fans. We've seen firsthand how partnerships between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) teams and student-athlete ambassadors can spread critical messages and mobilize communities. It's an authentic way to increase awareness and engagement lightyears beyond a traditional corporate social post. Here are just some of the real-world impacts I've seen these partnerships generate: *Thousands of students signing up to volunteer with nonprofits *Ton of food donated to feed hungry families *New LGBTQ+ youth outreach programs launched at schools *Major bump in employee participation in green commuting challenges The opportunities are endless. And the influencer element brings a human touch that resonates deeply. It's about putting a relatable face to important causes. If you're interested in exploring how we could collaborate to drive real social impact through sports, drop a DM!

At YW Boston, we strive to engage with our community and meet our constituents where they are. Twitter (now called X) has been one of those meeting places. It’s allowed us to share about our latest initiatives, spread the word on urgent events and policies, and connect with people who share in our mission to create more inclusive environments where women, people of color, and especially women of color can succeed. As we’ve monitored the changing situation at X, we’ve hoped that trust and safety would remain a priority for the company’s leadership. Unfortunately, there’s been an increase in hate speech and harmful language as policy changes at X have deprioritized the safety of its users. Many people of color and LGBTQ+ communities on X are feeling this acutely. And X’s suspension of some journalists’ accounts exemplifies capricious decision-making that may ultimately undermine First Amendment freedoms of the press. We’ve decided to vastly scale back our communications on X because the platform’s tacit acceptance of hate speech and lack of regulation around it do not align with our organizational values. We say “scale back” because we recognize that X still occupies an important space in the landscape of social media, serving as a digital “town square” for advocacy efforts that benefit the communities we uplift. As such, we will continue to utilize X to communicate about critical legislation and national events that align with our advocacy priorities and impact our constituents. We will no longer use our YW Boston X account to promote our programs, and we will no longer add to the company’s coffers by purchasing advertising and boosted content. Our LeadBoston X account will stay active, as it remains a core vehicle for amplifying the voices of our alumni and communicating the impact of their work on communities in Greater Boston. We will continue to monitor the situation and explore comparable alternative platforms that can support and amplify our LeadBoston community and serve as a full-time channel for YW Boston. YW Boston will still remain active on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. We hope you will connect with us there, as well as through our newsletter, which you can sign up for on https://buff.ly/3RoSH6m. We will continue to engage with our community across a variety of channels and we welcome your feedback on how best to stay connected.

Happy Pride Month! 🌈 As we celebrate Pride Month, it's important to bring awareness to the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. Many individuals find themselves in situations and workplaces where they aren't sure if they will be welcomed, accepted, or even safe. This month serves as a reminder that our support and advocacy should extend beyond these 30 days and be part of our everyday lives. I love seeing the rainbow logos everywhere - it brings me hope. But Pride Month isn't just about one month of recognition. It’s about showing continuous support and being active allies. It's about fostering an environment where everyone, regardless of their identity, feels safe and valued. It's essential to amplify voices across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum and work towards a future where everyone can live authentically without fear. Let's use this month to educate, support each other, and build inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive. 🏳️🌈💪 #PrideMonth #Inclusion #Advocacy

Enough with theperformative rainbow stickers and press releases: The LGBTQIA+ community wants brands to invest in advocacy, training, education and authentic allyship. And they're ready to to ditch brands that back pedal when things get messy. This is an important bit of research from Harris. https://bit.ly/3Da4dKG #brandmanagement #brandstrategy #brandpurpose #brandmeaning

Looking for events that are happening in the Metro this week that you probably will want to consider as you are growing your network ? 10/18 Six years in the making but the inaugural launch of the Iowa LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce is taking place 5-6:30p at Bubba 10/19 Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa's Cookies on Tap event is at the Iowa Tap Room 4:30-7:30p. Love cookies? Like beer? Might as well combine them to support Girl Scouts! 10/19 West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce monthly Rush Hour event at Urban Cellar 4-6pm. Last year at this event I took Jason Parkin's name tag and pretended to be him which was fun, until he joined our group and I found out I can't pull off Jason very well. Anyways, always a fantastic monthly event to connect with people and gives excuses to visit other local businesses. 10/19 Technology Association of Iowa and Involta's Tech Kernels is in Liberty this month at Field Day Brewing Co. 4-7pm. If you are over in the corridor and in the technology space then you should definitely be here. Plus, this is an event that I'm planning on attending so you get to see or meet me! 10/21 Moving to a new community is often difficult. If you are new to Des Moines the Greater Des Moines Partnership has their welcome to Des Moines 10:30a-12:30p at Howells Greenhouse and Pumpkin Patch. Take the family, meet fellow new people to the area, and have a blast doing it. Registration link is in the comments. 10/22 Variety - the Children's Charity of Iowa and The Loop DSM 3rd Annual Chili Cookoff takes place 12-2p at the side room of Iowa Tap. Money goes to support the children of Iowa. I still believe that there is still openings to enter your chili to win one of the categories. If not definitely stop out, bring the family, eat some chili, and support a great cause. #promotepeoplenotproducts #networking #dsmusa #events #reppdesmoines #youngprofessionals #professionaldevelopment #jacobfromlinkedin #reppicr

June marks the observance of Pride month in the US, a time to focus on the ongoing pursuit for LGBTQIA+ rights, and also celebrate identity, self-expression and community. Historically, brands have leveraged June as an opportunity to demonstrate inclusivity and signal support for LGBQIA+ audiences. However, in past years we have seen an alarming rise in negative sentiment and attacks against the LGBTQIA+ community. Concerned with protecting themselves against backlash, some brands have opted to pull back on or withdraw from Pride marketing. In this climate and context, showing authentic support and meaningful advocacy is more important than ever. Scroll through to learn about some of the brands making authentic outreach this Pride. #pride #pridemonth #pridecommunity #pridesupport

PrideVMC Spotlight: Meet Michelle Slater-Young, M.S. (She/Her)! 🐾Your role in #vetmed? I am the Creative Services Manager on the Marketing team at Banfield Pet Hospital and the co-founder and co-chair of Banfield's Pride Network. 👌🏾Why is proactively sharing pronouns (eg on email sigs, zoom profiles, stethoscope clips, etc) important? I proactively share my pronouns to make others around me feel comfortable enough to share theirs if they want to. 🎶Your walk-in song? "Sissy that Walk" by RuPaul 🏳️🌈How have you been impacted by #PrideVMC? I love that there is an organization that supports the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies in the veterinary industry. I am grateful to PrideVMC for authoring such an impactful document as the Gender Identity Bill of Rights. 👍🏾👍🏿👍Why are #Pride activities important to you? It's so important to show-up, represent, support and celebrate our Pride community. I love meeting new friends and feeling the sense of community and joy at Pride festivals and celebrations. 🎉Is there anything related to National Coming Out Day (Oct 11) that you would like to share? I didn't come out as Bi until I was in my 40s due to fear of being judged or misunderstood. I knew I was Bi when I was in middle school, but didn't dare tell anyone. I grew up in an area that was not very accepting of the LGBTQ+ community, so I had a lot of fear around that. Co-founding the Pride Network at Banfield was that spark that led to me feeling comfortable enough to come out at work. When I finally came out, it felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I was finally able to feel pride about who I am and share it with family and friends. I felt so comfortable coming out at work that I told some of my colleagues I was Bi+ before I told some of my friends and family outside of work. They were all so accepting and embraced me for who I am. When someone can be their authentic self at their job, I strongly believe they are able to do better work and feel more job satisfaction. 💪🏿💪🏾💪🏻In what way do you think allies are important to any marginalized group? Allies offer some of the most effective and powerful voices for marginalized groups. You can accomplish so much more if there are people who believe in the cause supporting you. 💗Favorite #quote? "Perfection is the satin-lined casket of creativity and originality." – Augusten Burroughs 💡Anything else you would like to share? I am so proud of Banfield's Pride Network! This year marks the 5th anniversary of our DRG! 🏳️⚧️ 🐾🏳️🌈 #vetmedpride #spotlight #veterinary #prideSvmc #pridevmc #bettertogether #allyship #inclusivity #intersectionality #equity #diversity #vetstudentsrock #loveplusactionwins #pronouns #bethechange #thisisvetmed #PrideVMCPartner #BanfieldPride

📣 CALLING DRINKS BRANDS! 📣 (And all brands really, but drinks is where I'm at, so...) Literally everyone, no matter the size of a business, advertises. Maybe not through an agency, but there will be marketers in your team. And! Some of them will be queer! Also also also - however you're communicating your brand, you will be speaking to queer people. We are in your audience. Fact. So. In case you've not come across it - I'd love to introduce Outvertising! Outvertising is a brilliant organisation that works to make the UK ad and marketing industries completely inclusive for LGBTQ+ people. Outvertising Live is coming up, but the team does super cool stuff all year round, too. Check out the LinkedIn page and website. So what? I'd really recommend encouraging people in your business to come along to Outvertising Live next month. The free half-day conference is for folks in the queer community, allies, and basically anyone who wants to see a better advertising and marketing industry. Not just when it comes to representation, but also through workplace policies, and in loads of other ways as well. AND! Do consider supporting the event! The sponsor deck is below, and packages start from £2k. I really, REALLY believe that advertising is powerful. It doesn't just reflect society, it can effect change too. Those of us who shape the messages that head out in the world have a responsibility to take this seriously and use it for good. Learning how to do that, from genuinely incredible creatives and thought leaders - and enabling others to do so - is an important part of seeing progress happen. SO GET INVOLVED! That's all :) (I'm not involved with Outvertising in any way, but I did go to Outvertising Live last year and I'm heading to it again next month. It's amazing!)
