https://lnkd.in/gmzgbRyE Netflix dropped its first-ever content engagement report recently, offering a fascinating peek into consumer behaviour and maybe even some hidden marketing insights. As it turns out, around 21 percent of the titles in Netflix’s report racked up between 50,000 and 149,999 hours of viewing. Sounds like a lot, but with the total list clocking in at over 93 billion hours and nearly 240 million subscribers, it's just a blip. Adding titles below that consumption threshold, we're looking at over 10,000 shows and movies that hardly anyone is tuning into. Do these stats make you think about where, how, and how much your #marketing #content is really being used? Have you been laser-focused on expanding your library to appease SEO crawlers and some mysterious algorithm? Or, have you been trying to create original, informative, and engaging stories that span various assets and formats? Here's the bottom line – it's not just about having a massive library; it's about dishing out content that resonates with your audience. Quality over quantity. Let's stay #authentic and boost those engagement levels!

How much of your content forces someone to drop everything to consume it? Marcus makes great points below.....of course! But I think he misses a key point. If your content is text (even with best practice headlines and bullet points to help skim readers) and focused on the decision stage, you're discriminating against a substantial portion of your potential audience. Simply because your content requires them to be in a particular headspace, and completely focused. And that doesn't happen very often. So here's the alternative. Step outside of your comfort with your preferred content type and obsession with your product/service. Create content that helps them personally, professionally, and broadly - and create it in media that makes it convenient for them to consume when they have time and with distracted focus. And, of course, it has to be good, regardless of length. But for goodness sake, make it accessible to them. You're not your content consumer!

How long should your content be? What they want is clear and concise information that is easily accessed and digestible. It all goes back to how long should your content (written or video) be? As long as it takes to provide the answer to their issue, problem, or task! What's your attention span?

The recent Hollywood strikes brought to light the impact streaming services have had on the industry. Streaming has created opportunities for more shows to be produced than was previously available. The challenge for consumers is which services to choose. The cost adds up pretty quickly. Some of the shows I have enjoyed this year. Apple: Lessons in Chemistry, Ted Lasso, and The Last Thing He Told Me. Hulu: Only Murders In The Building, The Orville (Season 3), and The OldMan. Netflix: The Lincoln Lawyer, The Queens Gambit, and Grace and Frankie. Paramount+: The Offer, The Lost City, and Star Trek (Strange New Worlds, and Lower Decks) Streaming services have also become home to excellent documentaries. Prime: Reacher, Upload, and Jack Ryan

Instead of scrolling mindlessly on TikTok, use the “STEM” tab to gain knowledge while being entertained. Use LinkedIn to gain knowledge and information about the field of work that you’re interested in. Obviously you can still scroll for entertainment or watch Netflix but make sure you put time to expanding your brain as well. #knowledge #socialmedia #socialimpact #information #knowledgeispower #socialmediacontent
