Thank you Eric and Wendy Schmidt for your contribution to NPR’s collaborative journalism!
Over 50% of U.S. counties have limited or no access to local news—with the country having lost nearly 3,000 local newspapers since 2005. To rebuild trust in the shared institutions that make up our great American experiment, investing in local media is critical. That is why I am so thrilled that Eric & Wendy Schmidt are investing in local journalism via NPR. Their $5.5 million grant will let us establish the Appalachia and Mid-South regional newsroom in Kentucky and Tennessee, bolster the Mountain West News Bureau, and expand existing regional newsrooms in California and the Midwest – all to boost local coverage and investigative journalism. Many thanks to Eric and Wendy, to our NPR team members, and to our wonderful member stations giving voice to local communities every day.

Much needed. Glad that the people in those areas will have the legitimate news to become informed.
