Presidential Debate Tonight President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are scheduled to debate tonight at 9 pm ET on CNN. Tune in here: https://lnkd.in/gAfXCdA3 Tonight marks the first general election debate of 2024, one of two such planned debates, with the second (hosted by ABC) scheduled for September. Tonight is also the first debate since the 1980s not organized by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates. Instead, the presumptive Republican and Democratic nominees have coordinated directly with news outlets on the dates and terms, agreeing to forgo opening statements, debate notes, and an audience. There will be a mute button to cut candidates' microphones off after their allotted response time expires. The debate—hosted by moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash—comes as recent polls predict a tight race, with Trump leading by 1%-2% nationally. Trump is currently leading in seven key swing state polls by 1%-5%.

Over a week ago, I made the following statement, here on LinkedIn: "If Trump wins, Democrats will (undeniably!) have no one to blame but themselves! It will not be the first time in history when a leader’s ego prevents him from following a path of reason and strong, rational arguments (not to mention what electing someone like Trump, 2nd time(!), will say about the US, on so many levels). Biden is a massive, walking (albeit barely) risk for Democrats now! More importantly, the 2024 election is a #storytelling, #infotainment & #bodylanguage battle, above all else, none of which are (or ever have been) Biden’s strengths. Lastly, and most importantly of all, Biden’s weaknesses makes Trump’s weaknesses look & feel like actual strengths!" So what has changed today? Democrats' support for #KamalaHarris is (and has been) lukewarm, at best. For a reason (or two)! Does her prospective candidacy change much, in favour of Democrats, along my three (highly subjective) "criteria" listed above? Not really, not unless she puts together a team of brilliant advisers and has enough humility to (really!) understand her campaign weaknesses...let alone address them methodically, one by one. Here are a couple of interesting (if somewhat provocative) questions: How likely is a Harris/Newsom candidacy? Is Newsom/Harris even an option? Any other combinations that come to mind, that, however flawed they may be, would ensure an effective counterbalance for the campaign battles to come? #AmericanPolitics #PoliticalMarketing

This is the first time the major party presidential candidates have both declined to participate in debates hosted by the CPD since the organization was founded in 1987. It looks like President Biden may back out of live debates, a tradition in place since 1976. What do you think his excuse will be? ABC News, CBS News, CNN Fox News Media, PBS, NBC News, NPR, The Associated Press, C-SPAN, NewsNation, Univision, USA TODAY, The Epoch Times and Newsmax Media, Inc. have all recently talked about both Trump and Biden needing to commit to these debates. The first debate is scheduled for Sept. 16 at Texas State University in San Marcos, followed on Oct. 1 at Virginia State University in Petersburg and Oct. 9 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, but some would’ve already voted by mail at these points, so there’s a request from the Trump Campaign to move them up, before anyone votes by mail. I think that it shows disrespect to the citizen voters, to not be willing to show up for debates. If someone can’t manage this, they can’t manage the Executive Branch and command our military. How important do you think it is that the Democrat and Republican Presidential nominees to debate live? #election2024 #biden #trump #joebiden #donaldtrump #gop #dnc #democrat #republican #liberal #conservative #debate #thoughts #news #trending #trendingnews #election #newsthisweek

itracks collaborated with political research rockstar Chad Bowie to find out what registered Democrats & Republicans thought about the upcoming election. Questions like "Would you still vote for Donald Trump if he were convicted?" and "Could you be convinced to vote for RFK Jr.?" The results were surprising, and AI-enabled sentiment analysis using itracks Realtime solidified the gut feelings experienced during the focus groups.
