Just saw this bite size report this morning, would love to share with you all. Contrary to widespread discussions about generational gaps in various aspects of life, a recent Pew Research Center survey has unearthed a remarkably surprising revelation: a common thread across age groups in the United States is the use of YouTube.
The video-sharing platform emerges as the most widely used social media platform for all surveyed generations as follow:
93% of adults aged 18-29 🤳
92% of those aged 30-44 👨💻 👩💻
60% of individuals over 65 👓
The survey, conducted from May to September the previous year, also indicates an overall increase in the use of social media platforms among adults since the 2021 survey. TikTok stands out with a notable jump, reaching 33% usage compared to 21% three years ago. Interestingly, Facebook and X(formerly known as Twitter) are the only platforms showing declines in usage across the surveyed period.
If you were to inquire intuitively about the three key signals provided by this report, I've identified the following:
👉 YouTube Dominance Across Age Groups - Truly invest in diverse and engaging YouTube marketing content tailored to various age groups.
👉 TikTok's Rapid Growth - Diversify by adding TikTok to your marketing mix, and leverage TikTok Live as an emerging trend.
👉 Decline in Facebook and X Usage - Maintain a presence but prioritize those gaining popularity aligning with the target audience's preferences.
Hope this would serve as a source of inspiration as you make informed decisions about resource allocation across different platforms.
