This is a brilliant piece, perfectly outlining the importance of #music, and in particular dance floors, on shaping #culture, forming #communities, and promoting freedoms. I'm hopeful that with every club or venue that closes its doors, other ones will spring up, driven by our human need for expression, identity and community. Here’s an anectode… One of my favorite bands is Behemoth, a Polish extreme metal band (yes, I listen to unlistenable music). About a month back I drove 6+ hours to go to one of their shows and got the VIP Soundcheck experience. Here’s Behemoth’s brilliance… At every single VIP soundcheck they give their fans an opportunity to come up on stage with them. And at the San Diego show that happened to be me. It was easily one of my most memorable experiences ever and will be hard to top. But, what this really means is… We value you as a consumer that invested YOUR time to learn OUR music so much that we will give you an experience of a lifetime. I believe music is just a vessel into other opportunities. Sync, merchandise, touring, and etc. Let's be frank. Many of our favorite musicians and artists make the bulk of their money outside of music. This is something I think we as independents need to think about. Whether you end up making $60k a year on a selling brand merch or have a few hundred people subscribed to your $5 Patreon. There are opportunities for us to market music in different ways but also tap into different areas. Music is a product. ⛔ This has split opinions.. YungBlud hosting an 'affordable festival', in hopes of 'shaking up' the 'too expensive' industry. Introduce, Bludfest. Now 2 interesting debates here (there are lots more) - both taken from Yungblud: 1️⃣ 'F**K the corporate bulls**t' - The show is being promoted by the second largest live music promoter on the planet AEG. Is this really a finger up to the system?! 2️⃣ 'The way you f**k a corporate system is to change it. It’s to change it from the inside out'. Again interesting point of view. A festival by his own admission that is barely breaking even. I wonder if the promoter cut is lower?! Either way you cant knock YungBlud for addressing the elephant in the room and trying to put on a memorable experience for the fans at an affordable price. Theres a lot of discussion points in this - both for suppliers and #eventprofs. I'd love to get some thoughts??
