Credit Card Competition Act -- Big box merchants are again driving what amounts to credit card interchange price controls. The previous iteration (the Durbin Amendment) crushed interchange on debit cards and resulted in banks eliminating free checking which disproportionately harms low income people. It is likely, as discussed in the linked article, that this latest price control will squeeze out credit card rewards programs. If the big merchants were required to pass along their cost savings, this might be a net benefit to consumers. But no such pass through will be required (that would defeat the purpose of benefiting the industry that paid the lobbyists). https://lnkd.in/ewdspe8z

Mastercard has hiked their credit and debit card fees. This adds complexity and strain on merchants and acquiring banks. Despite the legal settlement with US merchants to lower credit card swipe fees, the agreement does not cover mastercard fee increases. In the long run, this might push merchants towards alternate payment methods. It is interesting to see where this goes and what the future for payments is. #mastercard #creditcard #creditcardfees #financenews #finance https://lnkd.in/gb5i-79f

Ever wonder what's really behind those credit card fees? A recent ruling found a $30 billion settlement with Mastercard and Visa to be unfair, shining a light on the lack of transparency in traditional financial systems. In contrast, peer-to-peer (P2P) lending stands out for its straightforward and transparent approach, connecting borrowers and lenders without hidden costs. How can more transparency in financial services benefit you as a consumer? Find out more about this ruling and its implications in this PYMNTS article: https://lnkd.in/eV4_m-CD
