The Impact Investing Institute reports on insights emerging from the past several years of working in place-based impact investing (PBII) since the publication, with The Good Economy and Pensions for Purpose, of its landmark 2021 study (link in the comments) on PBII in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). As many as 13 million largely lower-paid workers in Britain will start having some of their pension savings channelled into a fund focused on renewable energy, biodiversity and solving social issues. The National Employment Savings Trust (Nest), the £36 billion state-backed default pension fund, has hired the Swiss private bank, Lombard Odier, to manage a new sub-fund that will attempt to eke out higher returns by focusing on seismic macro themes such as climate change. Workers will have about 5 per cent of their total pension contributions put into the new fund, which Nest estimates will grow to £5 billion by 2030
