NEXT for AUTISM is committed to enhancing the lives of adults with autism throughout the United States. NEXT for AUTISM’s 2024 grant cycle will support both autistic-led and community-based organizations and initiatives. Grants fund programs supporting the transition from school into adulthood for individuals with autism in the following three areas: home, addressing the need to design or develop and maintain high-quality living environments for adults with autism; work, addressing the need for autistic adults to gain and retain paid employment; and social, including supporting autistic adults to make connections, build relationships, and establish friendships. Nonprofit organizations working in the United States that have an interest in building or starting innovative programs, services, or models of service delivery with measurable impact or outcomes are eligible. Preference is given to low-income and limited-resource communities. I love the start to the September term and its hard to resist a buying new pencil case and notebook although most of my notes are now online. Despite not having worked a term time contract for a number of years, I always feel a refreshed sense of energy and enthusiasm about September and schedule time to revisit my strategic planning for the year. However many of the autistic children and young people will struggle with the transition from summer holidays to term time or from one education setting to another and indeed from education into employment. We’ve produced new evidence for The Autism Alliance about the needs of autistic adults and their families in England. Our report, Mapping supply and demand for care services for autistic adults in England, found that over 10,000 autistic adults in England are not receiving the social care support they need. In our report, we explore the barriers that have, and continue to, contribute to this figure, as well as enablers that may help to reduce it. Read our findings in full here: https://lnkd.in/diJaYMdG. Our report findings form part of The Autism Alliance’s Breaking Point campaign, which is raising awareness of the consequences of underinvestment in social care support for autistic adults and their families in England. The campaign is calling on the Government, local authorities, the NHS and the CQC to close the gap in care for autistic adults and to commit to wider reform of the social care system.
